Nuttawut challenges Suthep, Abhisit to live televised debate

THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- RED-SHIRT leader Nuttawut Saikuar yesterday challenged Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary-general of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee, and Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of Democrat Party, to a political debate on live TV.

Nuttawut, secretary-general of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), said he would be joined by UDD chairman Jatuporn Promphan. If Abhisit has not fully recovered from his broken collarbone, he can assign another Democrat to team up with Suthep, he said.

The debate could be held today if Suthep dares to accept the offer, he said. Suthep had asked the UDD to send a representative to a forum on whether the country should be reformed before an election is held, he said.

"So, I would like to invite Suthep to a TV debate for the people to consider the rationale of both sides.

The people will see clearly how the PDRC's measure to appoint an unlawful prime minister and the UDD's democratic way are different," he said.

After the debate, both sides may set a way to show their force |and public support, he said. "I hope Suthep will not turn down my invitation because he has challenged us several times. He must be brave till the end. If he agrees, I'll wait for him," he said.

Regarding speculation that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was monitoring and commanding the political fight in Thailand from Luang Prabang in Laos, Noppadon Pattama, Thaksin's legal adviser, said the report was made up and Thaksin was still in Dubai.

Thaksin's opponents have been telling lies on a daily basis and deceiving the public into believing there was such a thing as a "Thaksin regime", he said.

"The Thaksin regime does not exist. We have only a democratic regime in which any qualified person can volunteer to work for the people no matter what surname he or she has," he said.

Although Suthep swore in front of King Prajadhipok's Statue that he would take back the ruling mandate from the Thaksin regime and return it to the people, the PDRC leader would do otherwise, he said.

Suthep was instead trying to steal state power for his PDRC through an "undemocratic" plan to appoint a non-MP prime minister, he said.

Of course, he probably announced it this morning leaving only minutes for Suthep to decide and knowing that there would be no acceptance.

Lie, lie, lie, and deny.

Honestly, any debate will just be a platform to spout political rhetoric, so probably useless from both sides.

I note that it would be acceptable if Abhisit refused the invitation as a result of his injury...!!

I personally believe that he should attend, as he has shown that he is a very good speaker and well capable of fielding searching political questions.

I reckon he would take Nuttawut and Jatuporn apart; unfortunately, the likelihood is that both of them would resort to violence as a result of such loss of face...!!

Dear mr Nattawut, why doesn't your boss show some balls and defend herself on TV. Abhisit faced you, Jatuporn and Veera in 2010. The famous tv debate where he, the legal PM of Thailand at the time , offered you and your band of fascists early elections. At first you all 3 agreed, until that famous text message came in and you all changed tones, ended the negotiations and ensured bloodshed in the following days.

Why can't your Barbie doll PM go on tv herself? Why does she send her storm troopers to do her work again!

Well, actually, Nuttawut probably felt left out because Weng was the third member of the team, not he.... and Abhisit ripped the three of them apart on TV.

Public debate is the lifeblood of democracy since day one, and with the advent of technology these public debates can be seen by a large percentage of the population. These public debates should be enthusiastically embraced by any politician who claims to uphold principles of democracy.

The fact that so many of them avoid the public debate arena is because they lack conviction, and only feel safe when they are protected by auto-cues and scriptnotes in unchallenged statement-giving situations. We don't want our leaders to be wrapped in cotton wool, or wheeled from one auto-cue to the next. We want to see them defend their policies in open and robust discourse.

If there was a debate hopefully it would be held from dumb and dumber Nuttawut and Jatuporn's jail cell. Anyone know the date of their bail hearing.

Perhaps another idea, for a topical TV-programme, might be a version of the UK's old "Golden Shot", but with M79-grenades rather than a cross-bow, and political-targets such as the NACC-office ?

"Left a bit, left a bit more, Fire !". that used to be their catch-phrase ! biggrin.png

Please show me a link to where Yingluck passed the power of the government over to this jerk

YES YES YES

there should be a debate, but between the 2 equals

Abhisit against Yingluck

if he wants to pay 2nds then okay he can go up agains Suthep, but why does he need a backup,

It should be 1 against 1,, he wants 1 against him and typical tough male mob just in case he gets in to trouble (Thai men are only strong if in a group)

For months now we have been asking for tv debates and the PTP and red shirts have slammed the door on this and hid under the tables

We can tell they are now getting desperate, the end is near, and they are grabbing at every piece of rubbish that floats past to stay afloat

Yingluck screams she has not time to face the NCC and get 15 days, here we now see Nuttawut Saikuar saying you have no time to Suthep and if you not do today you are a coward

Isn't it interesting how things change when PTP wants to have things its way

Suthep no need to go on tv against this idiot today

With luck by the end of the week it will be all over, and you can then go on tv against YOUR COUNTERPART and start plannnig the best way to get Thailand out of the mess it is now in

The flaw in the argument, is that Abhisit is not the equal of the acting PM. This is not an election and this isn't a case of a candidates meeting.

Yingluck is in the position as acting PM. Abhisit is in the position of leader of a political party which did not contest the last election and has indicated that it will not contest the next election. Suthep, claims that he is not a political leader.

In no way can political faction leaders be considered the equal of a serving PM.

When is the last time a PM in any of the Commonwealth countries debated the leader of a political interest group, and leader of an opposition party OUTSIDE of an election? It's not done in the USA and I don't believe it is done anywhere in the world.

You're right it was Weng and not Nattawut. With all of them having a same color shirt, I tend to mix 'm up so early in the morning.

Not inviting the PM then, why's that now?

No dummies allowed.

I know the red shirts will have two dummies there but she makes them look brilliant.

Why is the red shirt trying to cover up for her let her fight her own battles. I know it is another country but when the two presidential candidates in the states had a debate they did it themselves why not the same here?

Of course with Yingluck it would be like throwing a 2 year old in to a 4th year collage philosophy course.

There was no election as it was voided, so Thailand is basically back to square one.

The dems are still there and they are the largest opposition grouping, so yes they should be able to debate with yingluck. As for who is equal or not, Abhisit is very much the equal of the acting PM.

Kind of like trying to separate dumb and dumber. I wonder if they made the offer hoping Abhist would not be able to make it. He could tear the two of them up in his sleep and they know it. A calculated risk but then again they know it would never come off because they would be setting to many restrictions on it.

I doubt it would be a debate it would be just a chance for them to promote their nonsense not defend it.

Is that why PTP's third tier of control wants to debate instead of top tier Yingluck?

Because of her "broken ankle"?

The flaw in your argument is, that if this was an election Yingluck would refuse any TV debate anyway. She did this 2011, ignoring all calls for TV debates with the opposition to discuss/defend her populist election campaign promises! The only way in Thailand to get a debate between ruling party and opposition is through status quo street demonstrations. Which as we all agree is wrong and indicated that before a new election, all the wise people of Thailand need to reform the entire political structure (or at least try it)

This seems to be a normal request , providing Nuttawut can answer the questions as to all the failed promises the PTP have managed to create , starting with the Flood mitigation, environmental failure in village water supplies, damming of rivers, illegal logging and so the list go's on.coffee1.gif

Any qualified person...

This is the qualification: pay 500 baht per vote until your party wins the "democratic" election and the rest is history

Looks to me that the qualifying process needs some oversight

Interesting, two Southern Hardliner from neighbour provinces on hot TV debate.

"Here on the left side Nattawud from poor Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

On the right Suthep from the rich Surat Thani Province."

time to buy beer and chips.

If you had read the posting you would have noticed this was a translation of my Thai wife answer to the question

You will also notice many words and phrases where deleted as your tender western ears would not be used to such Thai words

So yes you are welcome to your opinions as this is what this thread is for

but thank goodness, what she says counts

but what you say and think are (deleated) in Thailand

My opinion, well like yours does not count, ................ but you do make me laugh

How could anyone even be in the same building as these two Thug Red Terrorists bought and paid for by Thaksin - both of them should be in jail

Posted

This just further confirms what most people know already - Yingluck is just a weak and incompetent puppet, so her (or more correctly, Thaksin's) dogs have to do everything for her, such as debating, running the country, writing speeches and phrases for her to read, et cetera.
