30 Day Tourist Visa / 60 Day From Australia

When entering Thailand with a one way ticket what problems may I incure at the Airport with no visa attached to the passport

or would it be better to have a 60 day visa attached prior to departure

Reason is that a friend wants to visit Thailand for 2 months and then go on to Europe but the Europe ticket will be issued in Thailand in July
