Harley-Davidson 750 Street

The horn needs to be moved, the electric connection on the rear brake done better and put some padding in the seat for the pillion. ...otherwise it looks good!

Instead of going potato potato at idle this one will be poppadom poppadom!

Not a V Rod but a V Indaloo! 50hp from a 750cc engine am I missing something here?

58hp at the back wheel! That's not bad for a baby Harley.

OK 58hp at the back wheel isn't too bad considering it's dragging 250kgs wet.

OK 58hp at the back wheel isn't too bad considering it's dragging 250kgs wet.

Harley claim 480 lbs (217 kg) wet weight. With good torque it'll have a reasonable turn of speed.

but what i see is a porky underpowered bike made in india.

harley needs to work more on xr1200 and release it again.

Harley Street 217kgs wet and 58hp at the back wheel. Honda CBR500R 193kgs wet and 43hp at the rear wheel. Performance should be pretty similar with the HD edging it.

Good question. Post #27 said Bawal India is the only other manufacturing plant.

Would be nice if they do tho' - opens the way for a lower priced HD across the range, with a little luck.

You both are aware you compare two completely different machines...??? It's like comparing a farming tractor with a Ferarri, on paper the amount of horsepower looks pretty similar with the exception that the Ferarri has to do more than twice the rpm to get at max horsepower, and the tractor wins on the amount of torque....

Still riding a Ferarri at maximum performance will probably scare the shit out of a average person, which maximum performance on a farming tractor is something around 60km/h.

The Harley-Davidson Street 750 is a cruiser, and the Honda CBR500R is a wannabe sportsbike (and not get me wrong it's sporty).... I always had a problem with people buying a Harley and trying to justify the purchase by trying to convince that the motorcycle could actual put some performance on the tarmac... Sorry, I have a Harley-Davidson Sportster XL1200 and enjoy to ride it, but I would never compare the 1200cc V-twin with a Ducati 1198 that makes me just laugh...

just as an example

a versys only has 59hp and its plenty fast for most people and its not even a cruiser ,but its tuned for torque and it pulls like a train

a ninja 650 only has 65hp from the same engine ,a bit less torque but a bit more hp and higher top end speed

the harley is lightweight cruiser (light in cruiser terms ,not sportbike terms :) ) so i suppose 50hp will do

what its required to do .......

horses for courses and all that , i dont suppose anyone will buy one for 'racing performance anyway '

You are right Seedy, unfortunately some feel the need to try and derail any subject they don't agree with, hence the reason many of the sensible members don't bother to contribute anything to the forum nowadays. To bracket a CBR500R with a Ferrari is just plain bizarre, same as using an HD XL1200 against a Ducati 1198 as neither of these bikes are 'cooking' beginners bike like the Street or Honda CB500R and are in completely opposite categories. Right, I'm throwing no more juicy bones :)

The original post was that a toothbrush has more than 50 hp, then another poster chimed in with the underpowered bit.

No comparison made by me except for the original subject matter. Who would compare a HD with a Honda anyway ??

Except maybe a FLHTCU with a Gold Wing.

There's evidence of lack if due diligence on both sides- the Cycle World article has the actual wet weight of 503lbs (just over 228kg)- on this thread we have claims of 480lbs to 550lbs- this I something that continually bothers me on TV, the posting of incorrect info in the face of easily-verifiable facts- nobody wants to spend two minutes vetting their posts.

yeah but one gives 43 hp - which most dynos say 44 - 45 hp by the way - from a 470 cc engine and other gives 57 hp from a 750 cc engine, do you also consider this?

and also one carries 193 kg and other 222 to 228 kg - different numbers over internet but Harley says 222 kg

My comments are related with this as i found your comments funny as you never thought about these and just posting things on slagging people.

Cycle World actually weighed it (and dynoed it and ran it down the strip)- I never give manufacture claims too much credence, and wet-weight claims are almost always lower than actual numbers for all bike makers (a notable exception being Yamaha with the FZ-09).

a lot of contradicting info over the net but i respect CW's claims more than the manufacturers' too.
