Friday Extra Countrywide Holiday To Mark King's Ce

Congratulations to our beloved King. I wish all Thai and Foreigners living in this country, to enjoy the celebrations in respect of our Majesty.

To those responding again an again without reading the news. Yes, Monday and Tuesday are a long time ago aproved by the Government as Holdidays for the Greater Bangkok Area. Friday is a Nationwide Holiday and yes Banks will be closed.

For the guy in Penang. Prepare your travels. Everyone nows that there are celebrations to mark the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of His Majesty's Accession to the Trone, between 8 and 12 June, and your planning should have included the possible closure of Embassies and Consulates.

To get past the usual complaints made about anything Thai, I think it is fair to say that this is as good excuse as any to have a holiday. 60 years of honest toil is a effort worthy of respect.

I think having an extra holiday or two in honour of this celebration is a great idea. What is not a great idea in my opinion, is waiting until the absolute last possible moment to declare the holiday(s) when it could have been done ages ago.

Agreed

Not a lot of forward planning! after all they have only had 60 years notice :o

TBWG :D

:o Stop all your moaning, man!

If you're lucky enough to get an extra day off, enjoy it. If not, tough tits!

And if you don't like the way they do things here in Thailand, then just book a ticket and go home. Thanks ... byeeeeeeeeeeee. :D

Congratulations Your Royal Majesty. :D

I love that the Thai people so respect and admire their royalty. It is, after all, Their royalty, and we are guests here in their paradise. I just wish my home country had anyone we could revere, in any capacity...

I am supposed to do my 90 day report on Friday at Pattaya Immigration, any idea if the office will be open or closed.
Lest you shouldn’t know yet: the 90-day report can be made up to seven days before or after the due date, the latter without a fine.

In other words, unlike some other reporting dates – the follow-up visit on an application for extension of stay for support of Thai wife comes to my mind – the 90-day address report must not necessarily be made exactly on the due date.

If your passport goes into the embassy they have a rule that you have to get it backThursdayagternoon if myou bring early in the morning.

However you b\never know....

This isn't true. If you do not report in time, and you are caught, there is a 5,000 baht fine plus another 200 baht/day. If you do report, but late, the fine is 2,000 baht, although 2-days grace is given if you do report late.....at least that's what happens in Pattaya.

I am happy to have the holiday and happy for the workers in Thailand. It is, however, sad that the gov't didn't give more notice. For a lot of employers--including some factories as well as essential services, these short notices cause them a lot of problems. Since the gov't is so economically and business oriented, I am quite sure they would understand.

Have a happy holiday.

My deepest condolences Baboon. I don't know how anyone can be expect to figure out that a country will just up and grant a holiday and plan their lives accordingly, anyway.

Sorry, aatchm, but when you are organizing your childs funeral, you tend to lose track of the news somewhat.

Many condolences Baboon.

I, like many others I'm sure, assumed you were in Penang on a visa run and had not taken account of the holidays. Sorry.

Guess it must be differant across the country then. I got this from my legal advisors as a reminder:

Our record shows that your 90-day report will be due on May 31, 2006. Please send your passport and the signed 90-day report form to us on or before May 31, 2006 and we can submit it to the Immigration Bureau. The report must be submitted during a period from 5 days before to 5 days after the due date. The scanned application form for 90-day report is attached for your use.

In the case that you leave for overseas before the due date, please advise what was your latest entry date. We will thus be able to advise you of your next 90-day report due.

Any further required information, please advise

So it seems in Bangkok its ok up 5 days after the reporting date

Do you have an official source for that information? I'm more inclined to believe our immigration lawyer than this link.

The email they send to me every 90 days always contains exactly the same information (can report for 5 days before to 5 days after) since I started working here 18 months ago

People have known about the ceremonies and the official celebration for sometime. The actual holiday was announced by the government only this week.

Win some ... lose some. The number of public holidays is a Statute limited number. Thake these and lose others.

Hmmmm. Aren't they just Government Holidays? I dont think its a must Holiday for the private sector.

Just asking as I havent received anything from the labour dept. as yet except a notice to comply with the government holidays.

But things are changing every minute now.

Will stand-by for further news.

HI

Congratulations and long life to our beloved King!

I wanted to say the same, the (majority) thai workers get anyway screwed enough from rich people with companies and benz's so be generous to give them additional time to have a chang, about all they probably can have fun on in their low-salary life!

At least 5 days in a row some can relax! Those who got a thai woman (gf/wife) working in an office know that misery!

I pity the people who run street stalls, because they are banned for 14 days (start this monday) like Sukhumvit, Pratunam, Klong Toey, Petchburi rd, outside Khao San, any big road in BKK and soi of it, I guess Sillom rd. etc. yes, at some locations they can rip off tourists and can make a fortune, but not all of them! They pay horrendous money for their spot in some places and they just can make a living!

I heard thats because of the international visitors coming in!?

Even there is no holiday coming up as this I would not wait until the last day to do my reporting or extend visa, anything can happen to delay you! After some time in TH you will learn: watch out for holidays, they can be tricky!

Great hint about empty atm's, thanks!

Still noone knows about the bars and beer? Amazing! ;-)

Get yourself a yellow t-shirt, will you!

Dan

great, even less productivity! hail the workers, pity the company owners.

Chai Yo for the poor - company owners make a lot more money anyway
