Child born in NZ, now back in BKK, can't get Thai birth certificate?

Featured Replies

Hi there, second son born in NZ in January. Didn't realise we had to register birth with the Thai Embassy in NZ.

Thai Embassy in NZ insists we all have to visit IN PERSON to register and get a Thai birth certificate.

So now back in Thailand with child, but can't register as a Thai citizen or get a Thai passport for him.

Anyone had any experience on ways around this, or do we have to go back to NZ to register first?

Theya re right, but there is simple away to go around this.

Contact the Thai department of Consular Affairs, nationality section. You will have to submit the paperwork with them and they will check it for you. After that they will send the paperwork to the embassy in NZ for regular processing and when that is done you get the Thai birth certificate and can register the child on a household book and than can apply for a Thai passport.

Located at CW-road, they have a telephone number listed you should call to see where you now have to go and which documents to bring.

Hi there, I also have a nz born half Thai baby. The Thai embassy in Wellington told me the same thing! I would love to know if you have any success with getting the paper work done here in Thailand

Just follow my earlier mentioned procedure and they will take care of it for you. The consular department is very helpful.

Contact them first, as due to the protest they are not open on their regular address.

Contact Number for Department of Consular Affairs 02 203 5000 press 1

Thank you!
