Spending the remainder of my life in Thailand.

Unless you have reasons for doing so, being a wife, family - never invest money in Thailand. Yes, buy a beer bar in Pattaya for £10,000 on Walking Street. Nothing spectacular and you will make a minimum profit but enough to live ok in Pattaya. You will never create wealth in the Kingdom. However larger investments will bear better fruit. Depending upon your personal threshold of risk and need for hassle.

The problems about investing money is the fairly recent history of military intervention, the certain political instability and the succession question. Nobody knows the future farang status.

When I lived in Thailand I always rented a nice condo' for next to nothing - for example £200 per month for 2 bedrooms, seaview, free wifi, groundfloor gym, partial electric paid for, ideal.

Buying anything propertywise for a single man, no ties there can be no argument. Invest your money into something more profitable In the West and less chance of it being misapproptiated.

Having a mixed white baby is one of their dreams which is like a commodity so that they could walk aloof in their moo ban as if they were better than any other Thais who do not have white mixed baby. There are even many Thai women who want to sleep with white man just want to get pregnant and she does not care what the future would be. As long as she has a white mixed baby of her own that would satisfy her. I have some Thai woman whose broke up with their white man b/f but rather keep the baby for herself. They placed their white mixed child on the pedestal as if they were god children. Those children were raised with brainwashed hang up that they are beautiful and handsome from very young. Many of them are self-centered from being raised by a very typical Thainess mother.

I concur with this paragraph.

I would have to agree with the experienced ones. If you have no money are 44 and make better money in the west then stay there. Thailand is good for a good time but when I lived there on 30k per month I was constantly dipping into my savings, you just cant do it unless you want to live the life of a poor Thai drinking Sangsom once per month and eating som tam. I have wanted to live the dream and go back, two minds my co*k and my financial side and its the $$$'s that wins, I just cant do it, too damn risky, if I go and it doesnt work out, I cant return to my good job I would be totally stuffed. Wanna go to Thailand for long term, think $$$$$$$$$ because you are gonna need em.

i lived in a luxury home for years in chaing mai city center and my total monthly expenses (everything) where below 30k. so it can be done. and i did not even need to budget.

the problem is you like to party and go whoring. but don't tell this guy he can't do it if he has a handle on himseslf. coming over here to live is a great option if you need to save cash and have some self-discipline.

No Man, the problem if you pick up a TH lady and marry with her, make babies, buy house, car for her family. When you will look around yourslef you will recognize you are a true slaver with a TH dragon at home, and you have a lot of greedy TH relatives. This is the problem and not the party life.

Thrashing about in the dark with no scientific reason for saying this apart from speaking with farang for the past 10+ years, the farang will end up eventually getting ripped off, gooned, call it what you like. Having said that I know a small number of elderly farang in Koh Samui, Patong, Pattaya, Hua Hin etc who live nice lives. Is this due to wealth, the ability to mai pen rai more than others, lucky or oblivious.

Best country in the world, Thailand - if you keep your wits around you. Learn or rediscover your ability to be head of the household. If you bimble along then the family will make mincemeat with you, much the same as some of the posters here who have chosen to go their own way and have triumphed.

would not rush into settling down in Thailand. You could look for another employment opportunity somewhere else in other states, if NJ is not your desire state to work. As far I know about MANY Thai women mentality that they want to live abroad if they could afford it. Having a white man as their b/f, their first impression is he is her financial security, white mixed baby, a gateway to live abroad.

I am a Thai who was fortunate that my parents could afford sending their children to study abroad at good schools in UK and U.S.A. Nowadays there are many Thai women hook up with foreigner men in hope that they may be lucky to come live abroad with their foreigner b/f or husband. An exception for the Thai women whose foreigner b/f or husband determined to live in Thailand that is nothing the g/f or wife could not pressure her b/f or husband but men would experience nagging from his Thai woman. As long as the man is financially secured then she would not mind living in Thailand but living abroad is still one of many Thai men and women's ultimate dream.

I somehow have a notion that your Thai g/f is one of the typical Thainess. I have read stories from Thai forums that posted by Thai women who have westerner b/f and they all want to fulfill their typical dreams which are marriage, children, money, house, car and living abroad.

I would like to warn you about the MONEY issue that it may happen if Thai women who are financial equally to men, they would/might lose respect in men. It would be an equal opportunity that they would have to take control of relationship. The ones who are passive could be from a reason of lacking financial security.

P.S. please excuse me if there is any typos.

1000% correct, especially, if they have money, they want control/

Jasmine fever? a new term for me, I like it

the cure, is no money, no job, and no ability to get anywhere in a country with no friends.

no way, is what I say.

if she is clean, and can get a visa,

bring her over,

stretched out weekend romances is not love,

although, I heard I Love you so many times, from so many girls, some after sleeping with them only one time, it was nuts, and made me realize, it may be their best and only weapon,

talking love,

only talk

scarpolo, like your posts, not sure where i heard jasmine fever first ,maybe on stickman, think it refers to the frenzy a beautiful thai woman can cast on a lonely falang,my wife certainley gave it to me ,but i was fortunate too have some $ behind me,and she needs me more than i need her,not saying i don't love her but i can walk no probs if things become pear shaped,i agree with your post,i think benj has about 0% of sucsess with this.

love the name Jasmine!

its easy looking outside in, to comment about Thailand.

not so easy for the poor guy who falls for love

Look Buddy I have lived here for 25 years and have two wives and much more Thai male friends than falung friends. They all tell me the same story and my Thai friends are Directors, Politicians, Generals etc. Not motorbike taxi drivers. Thai women want money for self preservation because there is no social security system. Also close to 2/3 of the population is female so they are always worried you are going to find someone else. Regarding the OP's post if you can't flush $20-$30,000 down the toilet today without feeling it, I would suggest you reconsider your plan of coming to Thailand.

Close to 2/3 of the population is female? The ratio is actually 0.98 male/female. You're the only clown on this thread as far as I can see. Directors, politicians, generals blah blah blah. You'll be telling us you were a navy seal in a past life next.

I have to say, although births are roughly 50/50, single available Thai adults appear to be 2/3 women.

A lot of Thai guys die young, accident, booze, drugs, gangs.

Many are gay or ladyboy.

More are so poor that no aquisative Thai lady would look at them twice.

Leaving a lot of single available Thai women in their 30s.

So, ITP, if I changed the statement to "there is a vast excess of available single Thai ladies in their 30s" (aka Thai lady forest), would you agree or disagree with that?

I'd disagree with that. Google the figures for yourself. 0.98 is the figure for male to females aged from 15-64. Just think about what you are saying. If two thirds of the population were female that would mean there would be 2 women for every man, which is plainly ridiculous.

So pick up a Thai lady who works and isn't from a p*ss poor family. I don't support my partner, she owns her own car, has a good job and doesn't need me to validate herself. There's no law that says you have to bottom feed when looking for a wife/gf in Thailand

I don't understand guys who have to validate their posts by saying their chosen one wasn't a bargirl. A low wages economy such as Thailand along with the culture means that a girl doesn't have to be a bargirl in order to provide a service. I'd say good luck to all involved as long as they know the rules. Sadly many farang don't understand this. Baseline : Money number one, regardless of social statuus.

I'm not 'validating my post', I'm making the point that generalising about girls from any country is ridiculous. I don't understand guys who get into relationships with women that want them to support their extended family. Why don't they just walk away? Are they that desperate for company?

Glad to see you are going to stay in Korea and make some $$$$

try and save it !

like like a poor guy in Korea and save your money for retirement and an few trips to Thailand ,

buy your airline ticket when there is a big sale as it can save you 50% , and in Thailand spend like a poor guy....

anywhere in the world you will have lots of "friends" if you throw money around ,

see who likes you when you are just an average Joe :)

Firstly I think you should "pay unto Caesar that which is Caesars" and I don't understand why or how the US can demand Taxes from it's victims citizens who work abroad.

But back to your situation, it sounds like you need a well paid job so that you can pay yet more Taxes and save a little for your retirement in Thailand. Now you will earn more in the US than working as a teacher than you will ever earn in Thailand, so it looks like you would be best off where you are.

I respect guys who make the jump and get involved with a Thai girl. If you know the potential pitfalls then good luck to you. Those who have been married years both respect and admiration to you. However the vast majority of the Thai/farang marriages end in tears.

I know literally hundreds of Thai girls from all over the spectrum. There are probably 2 I would trust in a farang way - Dentist and a bargirl. Dentist who took time out to see if I was ok in my room and one thing led to another - payment made. The bargirl who has never asked anything of me after 6 years - sick buffalo, nothing of that nature.

My final days/month/years will be spent in Thailand.

Swallow hard. Come to Thailand. Marry your girlfriend . Have children and pray a lot. You path will be clearer to you. What if you do not live to retire ? What if you stay in Korea and die next year ?

You have got to decide but make a decision and stick with it. No regrets. What is most important to you. Your love or your retirement ?

44 years old and JUST starting to save for retiremeny? Kinda late there pal, not much future for you here in Thailand. money talks for visa's and many other things. you have to have a regular income (not bonds, stocks) in order to retire here and you have to be at least fifty years old.

Retirement's over rated.

From what I've seen in Thailand, it involves drinking and & eating too much, getting fatter and knocking around with unsavoury local women who, on far more occasions than the old boys will admit, chisel off a good chunk of their money.

What's the point of that?

Better to keep working

have to agree with this ,, too,,

i like to keep working, not just because of the money i get,

but i miss the craic with the lads, offshore, or on shore for that matter,

so the new gig im starting 28on and 28 off will be great for me,,lol

jake

I will have to disagree with both of you, but only slightly.

Better to die before you reach retirement age, and all your bits stop working properly.

Saves you money, saves you worry about retirement, saves you all the endless blah blah about health care plans.

From where I live in CM it seems 9/10 of the population is female.

Almost all the uni students are girls, all the shop workers, office staff, street vendors.

The only Thai guys seem to drive tuk tuks and Songtaws.

Maybe it's different elsewhere.

Don't care what google says, I live here, I can walk down any street and see for myself.

Marrying a Thai girl you know well but to marry one you know little about sounds like an impending car crash. It seems to me you are seeking a fantasy. A fantasy exists in Thailand as long as you are paying. Forget rescuing the girls, forget thinking they value your company along with a passport. Not true, you are the moneytrain and if you continue that then you may only have to put up with a little moodiness, once the money stops then you are history.

Sometimes Google isn't always right and I don't want to argue with you but try to consider these factors as I understand them from my own experience. Whenever a census is done in Thailand it's highly inaccurate because a huge %age of people are not living at their registered address. Dead people vote in Thailand. There are a lot of "missing" people. I have never heard a Thai man complain that he couldn't get a girl, you even see garbage/recycling guys with wives. However it's very common for women to complain that they can't get a man. Most Thai men have 2-3 wives. So in all practicalities there are at least 2 girls for every guy in Thailand. Even more so if you are fairly handsome, polite and have a bit of cash behind you. Once you get over the barrier of having a second wife the second wife complains to the first wife that you have a third wife ad infinitium and they sort their differences out together. As Fifty Two said "There is a girl forest out there" do with it as you please.

Well if a US citizen is working outside the USA for 12 months then his/her first $90,000 is tax free.

IMO, if you have a serious relationship and are not planning on fooling around, living in Thailand is very dangerous option. Most Western owned businesses do not make any money or fail completely and most teachers barely make enough to survive on a Western lifestyle.

If you plan on fooling around in the bars and massage parlors like crazy, it might be worth taking the chance, but otherwise teaching back home or in another rich country is a lot safer option.

this is a no brainer live in Korea goto Thailand with air Asia when promos come up. Oh and throw that american white picket fence dream away and turn it into a fan room with a squat toilet if you wanna survive as a teacher in Thailand.

North Korea even better! I don't believe they will be in any rush to send your tax records to Uncle Sam and a $1000 will go a loooooong way!
