Redshirt activists outside Mueang Police Station in Chiang Mai after filing charges against Suthep Thaugsuban for lese majeste, 17 April 2014.

CHIANG MAI—Redshirts have pressed charges against anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban, accusing him of lese majeste for vowing to seek support from His Majesty the King for his campaign to oust the government.

Mr. Suthep announced earlier this month that he will install himself as a "Sovereign Body" and draft a list of Prime Minister and Cabinet members to submit to His Majesty the King in order to seek his Royal Approval.

Dozens of Redshirt supporters in Chiang Mai province gathered at Mueang Police Station yesterday to press charges against Mr. Suthep under Article 112 of the Criminal Codes, which prohibits any remark deemed as defamation of the Royal Family.

The Redshirts also filed a charge under Article 113 of the Criminal Codes, accusing Mr. Suthep of inciting insurrection against the democratic regime with the King As Head of State.

The police have documented the charges, but it is not immediately clear whether authorities will take any legal action against Mr. Suthep.

Mr. Worawuth Rujiphanan, the leader of the group, said the Redshirts in Chiang Mai are resolutely opposed to Mr. Suthep's plan of replacing Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra with an appointed PM and an unelected "People's Council."

Mr. Worawuth, who operates a local Redshirt radio station, added that if there is a military coup or any attempt to remove Ms. Yingluck, his supporters will immediately surround the Chiang Mai City Hall in protest.

The Royal Thai Army has denied rumours of an imminent coup in April, stating that the allegation is completely groundless.

Nevertheless, sources inside the Chiang Mai police force claimed that the army has instructed its divisions in the north to collect addresses of all local Redshirt leaders for an unspecified purpose.

The sources also alleged that the army is stockpiling shields, batons, and other weapons in its northern barracks, but the troops have received no other instruction related to the matter.

Might they not find it a trifle difficult to actually produce some credibility to their charge considering the action and comments of one of their leaders Koo-Te?

What a nice family photo.

And the policeman taking a picture to remember the gathering, as nobody will hear about that BS again.

Nothing better to do in Chaing Mai?

Why is it "BS" It's not! and that's why Suthep had to do some very hard back peddling and try to change his meaning of installing himself as sovereign body, that is a very big foot in his mouth, that's a fact just you don't like it huh...

Listen to the original Thai speech and you will see that there is no ground for lese majeste accusation!

No grounds what so ever, end of story

Suthep gets a dose of his own medicine.

Red shirts pressed charges is not a charge, no-body but the police can charge anyone, the news print is misleading, how gullible you are.

And they have presented a copy of Khaosod newspaper as a forensic evidence, because that is the only proof that they have. laugh.png

It is only proof if it can be confirmed as real, and seeing that only Khaosod, PTP, CAPO and UDD think it is real... Then in fact it is not proof, it is in fact 'fake evidence' and that should be considered a crime to attempt to file charges based on knowingly fake evidence.

Where I come from that is classed as attempting to pervert the course of justice. Or conspiracy to commit perjury..... Both seriously prison-able offenses.

Clearly you come from the United States, which has a dubious system of law and order to say the least.

This hardly even counts as news. Both sides use Lese Majeste as a political tool, weapon call it what you want. This is one in many ways has more merit than the majority of the lese majeste mud that's thrown. But at the end of the day, the only people that ever get thrown into the lese majeste Supermax, are foreigners or poor people who cant afford the lawyers or the bribes. So this will pass along with all the other, Red, Yellow, Dem, PT, PDRC, UDD, PAD (the list is endless) pointless charges of lese majeste

When the chief source of a prosecution case is an article from Khaosod, and when Khaosod becomes the only source to follow up on such a story - when everything is funneled through the prism of Khaosod - then naturally - it makes perfect sense to the UDD and red shirt radio. They still of course have yet to convince Khaosod to print every coup rumour, but they're working on that. In the meantime, this intended diversion from Ko Tee, from the calls for secession, for the call for ten million Thais to arm themselves with guns, to the call to question the legitimacy of the independent agencies of legal checks and balances, from the attempts to sow public distrust in the rulings of the National Anti-Corruption Commission and the Constitutional Court, to the attempts to prevent the Senate from opening in order to consider impeachment proceedings, from a meeting by Chalerm where he chastised government officials for not towing the Pheu Thai narrative - in other words, all the stories that Khaosod does not cover - we have a photo-op of what the UDD do best - pose for photographs, trying to appear that they know what they're doing.

and to just note further, as far as I know DSI is still working on the thai transcript of Suthep's speech. Presumably they are still trying to find grounds to lay charges and haven't been able to twist his words as well as KhaoSod has, or at least in anyway that would let them charge him. This things seems a bit like a comedy - he said that she said something so someone else files charges - but it turns out he didn't actually hear her say anything .... so now what. Nothing.

It is BS and there will be no charges pressed in this case, you can count on that.

Les, Majeste, oooooh Les Majeste,... against, reddies, Demos, at Suvarnabumi,... and soon across each others including innocent bystanders.

Has this become the latest trend among haters, accusing people of *you-know-what-LAW aka the Law the must not be named*

Soon, even Khun Falang and everybody innocent else will be accused just out of the blue....
