Thai-born British citizen accused of lese majeste by her own parents

"According to Mr. Surapong, Ms. Chatvadee has not been in contact with her parents for some time."

I'm not surprised, if I had parents like them I wouldn't like ever to see them.

It is such parents that help create young woman shooting her mouth off. Blaming others for their unhappiness.

A UK Citizen living in London. That's the end of that. She'll just never be able to return to the "land of smiles" again. Though, I'm sure she'll find a way to survive. It's not like she has a wonderful family to return to.

Dont be so harsh. They could be protecting themselves against vigilantes, after all the aged couple have to live the rest of their lives in thailand.

The whole concept of "Lese majeste" is medieval and should be outlawed itself.

Talk about a double-bind.

He added, "I want people to understand that just because a daughter is doing something wrong, it doesn't mean the parents are also guilty, because we don't condone such actions."

What a cowardly father - more interested in clearing his own name and saving face than loving his own daughter.

Pathetic little Thai man.

Wrong, your are totally wrong, and totally out of order, he has no need to clear his name, he did not disrespect the royal family, but he as a family has been caught up by comments made by his daughter. Don't know how long you have been around my friend but this is a classic case of being guilty because of a family members disrespect (whether right or wrong) we are not here to discuss that issue.

Their parent should go to jail for producing such a disgraceful child. Just go to her facebook and you will see why.

For every steps she book her feet on top of the book cover, I hope she goes to jail for 5 years (each).

If found guilty for disrespect, I hope she go to jail to the limit of the punishment. 5 years for every disrespect. That will be good for her. Thailand do not have such disrespectful people. We all love the king more than our parents. Don't believe me, just ask anything Thai you know.

So what do you think about Thai people who make problems and kill each other in the Thai capital where important people live.....?

Given the crap he generally posts, I doubt he's even been to Thailand, more likely Bradford.

He is a she and lives in Scotland, maybe she will be deported when Scotland becomes independent. We have enough of our own dross without this.

Why stop with her parents? Why not imprison all the members of the culture that 'made' her? Surely they're responsible.

Maybe there is a method to this madness. Maybe she will be out of the UK soon, as her visa is up and it didn't work out with Trevor. So she has engineered a situation whereby she will be arrested on a antiquated draconian law on arrival, thereby validating her asylum application.

Does this sound plausible? Is she as smart as me?

More power to the lady IMHO. I had a Thai girlfriend about 30 years ago that held the same basic beliefs which was even more anachronistic back then. She eventually became as Australian citizen and forever forsook her Thai birthright as she reckoned it just wasn't worth it. Thailand hadn't given her much in life and she owed nobody.

It must be a bit of a bugger being Thai where you are pilloried by the TV peanut gallery for being seen as just another one of the sheeple and similarly chastised for thinking outside the box and having an opinion.

Can anyone please help to proof Suriya4 is wrong by producing a video clip of some Thai who is willy to say they love their parents more than the king. Real name must be provided.

I don't think you can.

she came to sense to like the western culture more than thai culture and now her parents are losing face..

We do not know exactly what is involved here regarding the parents and so there is no point in assuming anything.

I wonder how this girl managed to establish herself in Britain in the first place and she is now using Britain as a sanctuary to protect her while she attacks the system of another country, which could be regarded as treason. If found guilty of Lese majeste I wonder if Thailand could insist that she is extradited back to Thailand to face charges, and if that happens the girl will then claim political asylum and therefore involving Britain in a diplomatic dispute.

The bottom line being, that this woman is big trouble and anyone would have to be crazy to support or become involved with her, plus I also wonder if she is just a front for some ultra extremest political group?

Or just maybe since she has been in the UK she has discovered free speech, what happened to the BBC reporter who a few years ago was accused of the same crime,I don't think he was deported back to Thailand. The west has many faults, but it is way in advance of this draconian civilisation,

This is a parallel universe. Nine pages of yellow-shirted TV members defending the reddest red-shirt rant ever seen on ThaiVisa. What a strange experience.

Are any of you men (of course) rethinking the whole yellow-shirt thing to throw in with Rose's dear friends.?

I think you just answered the question why Thailand is not a democracy...

sadly it is a democracy, otherwise such a populist as Thaksin would never come to power.

and these Western ideas destroy Thailand now, making the same what's happened in Venezuela, Zimbabwe and other countries who believed in the fairytale that democracy is a source of Western prosperity...

political freedom (democracy) is incompatible with economic freedom, because economic freedom is utilized by 10-20% of the population (others are losers) so when the majority gets a political freedom it sooner or later utilizes it to take away and share the wealth of successful. And populist politicians promise and do what majority wants them to do. sooner or later.

democracy leads to socialism, but the speed depends on the maturity of the society. but the result is always the same: parasites become a majority. We can see it in USA very clear now.

Over simplifying it really, many that are anti government are not pro yellow.

By the time Scotland becomes independent she'll be an old lady drawing her pension and there won't be a royal family in Thailand to disrespect.

Come to think of it there won't be a Thailand either... just another province of China.

would you like to say this in front of Thai people?

or bashing anonymously is more comfortable?

I think he means there won't be a Thailand down the road if it continues with its current way of life. It would either exist as several fragmented nations, or be renamed/re institutionalized.

Can anybody here tell me the username of the girl's YT channel?

Thankfully (although, perhaps, a little unbelievably), you do have the right to love your king more than your own parents - what you should not have (and do not have) is the right to impose your ridiculous restrictions on free speech to citizens residing in other sovereign countries.......................

I suggest that if you have not already done so, is to view that woman`s facebook page. A lot of it is absolutely obscene and shocking.

As I have said many times on here in the past, there is a world of difference between what could be regarded as freedom of speech and outright provocation and abuse. Problem is that many people cannot differentiate between the two unless it becomes personal to them and they are on the receiving end of it.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I believe this woman is a front for some hard line possibly ultra right or even ultra left wing extremist group. She and whoever else associated with her are using the social media and Britain as a base to publish this bad propaganda against Thailand from what they consider as a safe distance, or in other words, look at me; I can throw stones at you but you can`t defend yourself and hit me back.

If you read a lot of the Thai bashing by some posters on these threads plus from others using the media as a tool to denigrate Thailand, then it becomes obvious that the country has many enemies.

Lots of countries have many enemies, but lots of countries have freedom of speech.Take a poll and tell me how many more countries there are without freedom of speech as against those with.Just to make you work please list them.

Not Thai bashing at all but an observance of the way things are headed here and how things might be in thirty years time. If anything I'd say I was being conservative with the timeframe.

And I have discussed all manner of things with Thai friends over the past fifteen years here. They are surprisingly open with foreigners and more clued up than you seem to give them credit for.
