Normally, the commodity prices would always increase coinciding with the approaching of the Myanmar New Year before tapering off after the festival.
This year, the prices have not dropped and the cost of certain commodities keeps on rising.
The prices of meat and fishes have jumped 25 percent. Selected items see prices double in comparison to the period before Thingyan. Many believe the raised charges for power and government pay increase have spawned price rise before and after the festival.
