Like MJCM already replied, banks dont REFUSE anything. They might try to block the useragent - and so what, change it to something else. Small problem.

The fun part of this is that the ability to change the useragent data came from the needs of Linux users who did not have IE installed on their computer and wanted to access internet bangking sites with Firefox

No, many organisations (the IRS, NHS, UK Gov't and Banks to name a few) are paying Microsoft to continue providing updates under their "Custom Support" scheme.

And I don't see why this is that far off topic, the OP, quite sensibly, wants to get rid of XP.

MS will stop supporting it when they stop making money out of it, and at $200 a PC p.a. they are frankly making money for old rope.

There is no low price Linux support available, as far as I know. Not the same extent as there is support for Windows or OSX.

free community support is available in many places for the free linux versions. try visiting their forums if you dont find what you are after try a different linux distro. many to chose from for free.

Correction to the post stating Ubuntu LTS support period. 5 years is for server, 3 years for desktop. But the upgrade is much simpler than windows.

Microsoft will stop mainstream support for Windows 7 on January 12, 2015. But the company will keep providing extended support until January 14, 2020.

Extended support, means that you'll still receive free security updates and please note that XP's mainstream support ended on April 14, 2009

Mainstream support is that you get non-security updates or additional features added and Security Updates.

Extended support as stated in my post is that you only get the Security updates.
