300 baht an that included making all copies

IN 25 years it has never been free in Phuket

Its funny, look at how long all those that most complain abut corruption,no recipt, problems with immigration, customs etc

thery all have not been here long,

those of us that have been here awhille realize if you want stay an have a good life you accept thats the way it is an get on with it.

Not true. Only those of you who pay. Many of us do not pay and have no bad issues or problems as you suggest we do

Last time I paid 1000,- for those with the white batch, the week before I even paid 1400,- for those with the red batch. Do you think I paid too much?

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

If you mean guys with a badge, then YES.

I have lived in Thailand for almost 8 years now and I had to pay "tea money" once in Bangkok, apparently I took a wrong turn at a junction and went into a small strip of tarmac where only police apparantly are allowed to use.

I was heading back to Phuket and was almost out of BKK when I got stopped by a MC police, he demanded 2000TBH up front, I only had a 1 K in my wallet and he settled for that, if I refused, I would of had to go back to a police station somewhere inside BKK and pay a fine of 300TBH.

Even today, I feel almost disgusted with myself, I blame the fact my daughter was in the backseat with a fever at the time but it wasn't only that, I had set my mind arrive before sun down in Phuket and if going to the PS, I wouldn't have made it.

But I can assure you, if it happens one more time, I will go to the PS and pay whatever fine I have to.

I don't care how long time I have to wait for work permit, non-B family visa, or whatever they can use to try and extort me with, I will try to keep my nose clean for as long as I can.

People I know who start "paying off" Thai officials, have a long lasting problem with higher and higher bribes and the higher , the more the extortionists becomes threatening.

Bar, rest. owners should close their venues at 2am so they don't have to cash up, if everyone as far as they can go, refuse to pay extortion money the Thai officials in a long run would actually be nicer and more forthcoming than they might be at the moment.

If you ever believe that Thai people, including officials, like you more because you hand over your cash for nothing, then you are very very wrong.

In fact they look down upon you and think you are a stupid person, they might seem friendly enough but most probably they see you as a nitwit.

its not aimed at Farangs to pay "tea money" , all thais do if they want it done faster or under the table,

its an accepted part of Thailand,

ask any thai, they will tell you.

That's OK then.

God bless Thailand.

I really like Marcusd's comments.

My police commanders friends say Don't Pay, of course they will say that to anything that they cannot get their hands on a piece of the pie.

Just a reminder to 85% of the ramblings above. this is not your country, & it is not done the way it is done in your home country.

Tea money for a job well done is ingrained, accepted & we farangs are tolerated here not wanted , just go with the flow.

In the end your heart rate will thank you for it

With little or no education, beliefs instead of knowledge will appear, so yes of course some Thai do pay under the table but not willingly.

If you believe it's accepted, ask your Thai friends again, they will set you straight. If they would believe they would be able to get what they want without bribes, they wouldn't cash up either.

With more communication, Internet and World wide TV channels, young people are starting to realise they don't have to pay bribes anymore.

When you say it's not aimed att farrangs, I agree, but the bribes are a lot higher and more frequent for farrang compared % of how many we are to them.
