Bhumjaithai: Abhisit's campaign to resolve current conflicts positive signal

BANGKOK, 30 April 2014 (NNT) – Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva's campaign to find a solution to the country's current political crisis might be taken as a sign that all political parties will partake in the upcoming general election, according to Bhumjaithai Party leader Anuthin Chanwirakun.

Anuthin held a meeting of his party's executive members and former members of parliament on Tuesday, during which he thanked the party's legal team for its effort in successfully arguing against a complaint filed to the Election Commission, which could have otherwise resulted in the party's dissolution.

He also urged every party member to keep alert and constantly be aware of their tasks as politicians, citing the recent annulment of the polls in saying that an election can happen anytime.

On the topic of whether there will be more problems if People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) protesters obstruct the polling again, Mr. Anuthin said there should not be a problem so long as every party enters the race.

He said Mr. Abhisit's stance could probably be taken as a good sign for Thai politics, adding that a decision by Mr. Abhisit to run in the general election would be likened to a promise that all parties will field candidates in the poll.

It looks like there may be a small flicker of light at the end of the long dark tunnel.

Abhisit is getting very positive feedback already, and this will be a great asset to take into an election so long as they are free and fair.

His only problem is going to be the reds... even the TVF reds are already denouncing the proposals.

I wonder why that is?

Could it be that they know PYP won't win a fair election????

Yup!

easy woops you know how upset they get when truth...rears its ugly head...

If they had not boycotted the last election as their supreme god (suthep) said for them to do they would now have a working government.

The last election was fait except that the dems under the orders of suthep did not join. So get your facts straight before saying. All you yellows in BBk would never make it with out the red sirts building your homes and businesses. Just remember that.

Exactly right. A working government that will continue to be corrupt and lie about it's true intentions. Until reform and change can take place, elections will continue to unfairly favor Pheu Thai and the Thaksin regime. Thailand needs reform now so that the elections can be held without benefiting any one candidate.

I have not heard one TVF red supporter say that the last elections were not filled with corruption from the Pheu Thai party. Don't use the excuse that this is how its done in Thailand. The red supporters here apparently know this is true, but will not mention or address it.

Outch!!!

He's a gormless weasel but he knows the tide is turning against him

"Gormless weasel" is a good description.

This guy Abhisit wouldn't know morality if it came up and bit him in the bum!

He's already boycotted two elections. And during the brief period he had in power (2008-2010?) he consolidated his rightwing people: more repression, more funding for the army, more lese majeste cases.

Abhisit has no conception of moral values. His main belief is to protect his upper-class, Eton-educated cronies. He has no sympathy for ordinary people; he cares nothing for them; he cannot even talk to people outside Bangkok!

Any attenpt to do a deal with this ammart ** should be resisted. Abhisit should be sent out of Thai politics for all time. He should be sent back to the UK to face the voters of Eton or Henley. Evidenly he loves upper-class British people but hates his own countrymen, if they are working class - so let him live in Britain!

Bhumjaithai is a popular party in the North and this is an indication that Abhisit's appeal was gaining traction, but as the election has now already been called as a result of a meeting between Yingluck and the EC today - all of those hopes are dashed. Because this announcement today indicates that no outreach to Abhisit from Pheu Thai was made. Abhisit was hopeful - as were many - that a consensus might be reached. One idea that was brought to light in recent days was that a " provisional " or " interim " election might be proposed - that had the sole mandate to address reform, before another election held shorty thereafter. Many considered this to be a real breakthrough and a possible bridge between the parties. All of that's gone now. Yingluck has called an election, knowing that -

- she is slamming the door on the Democratic party's outreach for a pre-election consensus.

- she is therefore consequently aware, that because of that, the Democratic party may not contest this election.

- she is also aware that the EC has warned her that some districts might need to be postponed. If that were to happen, the election could be nullified on the same grounds they were before - that the election was not taking place on the same day.

- she is also aware that the EC is asking Yingluck to take responsibility if a quorum is not reached.

- she is also aware that there is no indication that the tensions are any less than they were before, and in fact are greater, with the chances of a successful poll even more remote.

Yingluck and Pheu Thai have embarked on a new path to combat the difficulties they faced before. It's called doing exactly the same thing. And in the meantime, there will be a ruling by the Constitutional Court within the next two weeks, as well as a ruling by the National Anti-Corruption Commission, also expected soon.

Wow, grind that axe, grind it, grind it.

"Evidenly he loves upper-class British people but hates his own countrymen"

I'll leave the spelling mistake in...... how come then that he is the only PM in the last decade or so that has actually laid out policies that have benefited the rural poor, and cut out the thieves in the fiefdom?

You know, stuff like subsidised school uniforms and books, rather than a plastic piece of junk that doesn't work.

A free health care system, over a cheap health care system that costs more to administer than if it was free.

Money paid directly to the farmers (the ones that need the most help) without trying to control the world markets and ending up in the little-amarts pockets.

Little things like that.

The only reason he attracts negative criticism is because not only does he threaten the old elite, but the new elite too.

He is the sign of change, and all of them, both sides resist that.

Google good old Winston "you have enemies"

Mr. Abhisit lost his chance to become relevant in the Thai political scene. Now, he is in damage-control mode desperately trying to gain some kind of relevance. This made for the public act looks just like his campaign posters of the past.. trying to present himself as something that he is not. Mr. Abhisit needs to do a lot more to gain the confidence of the majority. Unfortunately for him - his messages have been muddled by his own actions... He cannot make up his mind. If this is the kind of person Mr. Abhisit is, how in all confidence can you have him as Prime Minister for the Kingdom of Thailand?
