Chanting ceremonies in honour of Their Majesties
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- More than 30,000 temples nationwide and many others overseas will hold simultaneous Buddhist chanting ceremonies along with meditation in honour of Their Majesties the King and Queen on Wednesday, the Sangha Council said yesterday.

The chanting ceremonies are being held to mark Coronation Day, which falls on Monday.

The main prayer ceremony will be held at the Emerald Buddha Temple in Bangkok with 500 senior monks participating, council spokesman Phra Maha Maythee said, adding that a specific chant had been chosen to expel evil from the country.

"With the country divided, this prayer will bring calm and help people focus on good and wisdom," he said.

The monk also called on Thais to recognise the importance of His Majesty in their lives and realise that he is being affected by the constant disputes.

Meanwhile, Phra Phothi Nanthamunee, a senior monk at the Thai monastery in Bodhgaya, India, said this chant aimed to instil three qualities - consciousness, virtue and compassion.

"Prayer alone cannot solve the country's problems, people who are behind these problems also have to practise these three qualities," he added.

The monk also said the caretaker prime minister and the leader of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee should realise that people want peace.

"You would show true compassion if you retreat and let the country win so there can be peace," he said.

Young people look anxious as they wait for mock job interviews at Adecco

BANGKOK: -- With many university graduates unsure what career to pursue, the advice from a leading provider of work "solutions" - Adecco Consulting - is "go for jobs you like".

"If you don't have fun working, your performance won't be good. You won't find any inspiration to improve," Tidarat Kanchanawat, the firm's regional director for Thailand and Vietnam said at a recent forum.

Held on Wednesday, the Adecco Way to Work conference attracted hundreds of students and young graduates. It offered a free lecture, free counselling and various free activities designed to help the young participants identify their potential, interest and strengths.

"Their interest and strengths should be the key factors when it comes to choosing a career. Don't sim?ply go for the field you have graduat?ed in," Tidarat said.

Wirunpon Suwannoi, 23, a sys?tems analyst at Free Will Solution, said he had registered for the Adecco Way to Work activities because he was not receiving job satisfaction and was looking for advice.

"I have studied IT. So, I've got into this field. But after I started working, I found out that I didn't like this kind of job," he lamented.

He has worked in his current job for about a year and feels unhappy.

After listening to Tidarat's advice, Wirunpon now plans to look for jobs in which he could use his planning and organising skills.

"I used to be a student leader. Back then, I had fun organising activities and solving problems that arose," he said. Benjapan Somwong, 23, a third-year student at Burapha University, said she ended up in a logistics pro?gramme because her scores were not high enough to secure a place at her favoured programme.

"During my study, I've come to realise that I don't like logistics," she said. So Benjapan also went to the Adecco forum in search of advice.

"Thanks to Adecco's advice, I've decided not to just try out a job as a trainee first. I should start working as an employee because that's the way I can earn a salary and get to the real work, not just some small errands like photocopying and carrying documents around," she said.

More evidence sought for credit union case
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Public prosecutors have ordered the Department of Special Investigation to get further evidence in the alleged embezzlement at Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative Ltd, saying current details are insufficient and many suspects have different patterns of behaviour.

The Office of Attorney General spokesman Nantasak Poolsak said there was already ground in pursue the case, which may have resulted in a total loss of more than Bt12 billion to cooperative members, but more evidence was needed.

A source said it was likely that a non-indictment would later be handed to Jiradej Worraphiankul, an aide to caretaker finance minister Kittiratt Na Ranong, and Ratpracha Co Ltd chairman Watchanont Nawaissararak, as there was insufficient evidence against them.

The DSI is investigating the roles of former Cooperative chairman Suphachai Srisuppha-aksorn, former deputy finance chief Saranya Srisamak, former director Laphas Somekham, and former chief loan officer Krissada Bunmark.
