Moving back to UK

Featured Replies

I hope somebody can help. Ive been trying to renew my Old black UK passport as i need to return to the UK to look after my Mother. At present I have a Australian passport as i emigrated around 34 yrs ago and let my Uk passport lapse. I am married to a Thai lady and have a seven year old daughter who has Australian citizenship and wish to take them with me, but one step at a time the first is to renew my U.K passport. I have just come back from the U.k trying to renew my UK passport and went along to submit all the paper work and completed forms at the Post Office to be told that I also needed to send in my current Australian passport. And all would be returned to me within 6 - 8 weeks. As I was flying back to Thailand the next day and also needed my passport for work as I fly in and out on a 4 weeks rooster this could not happen.
So now I am back home in Thailand and will try again at the British Embassy in Bangkok. I was was reading on their web sight that at the interview they return all documents as I need the Visa`s in my passport for Thailand and work. Does anybody know if this is true or any other way around the problem.

Looks like it will take approx 8 weeks and 2 visits to the VFS offices in Bangkok (the British Embassy are not involved it all falls under HMPU).

There is a long-running thread on CHANGES TO BRITISH PASSPORT RENEWALS....

Thanks for the liks I will read through them. My main concern is keeping my Australian passport current whilst applying for my UK passoprt.

You can enter the UK legally on an expired UK passport, whether it would be taken off you on arrival I do not know.

I'm pretty sure that you can use your expired UK Passport to prove your right of abode in the UK, it is purely evidence of your right of citizenship and whilst the document itself is out of date, your citizenship doesn't have an expiry date.

You will of course need your current Oz passport to board the aircraft, and present both at the border in the UK. You could renew your UK Passport at your leisure when in the UK.

I do not have any problem going back to the U.K . My problem is that when i applied for a renewal of my UK passport in the UK they wanted me to supply my current Aus. passport and it would take 6-8 weeks to be returned. As I am still working Flying in and out of Thailand I need my Aus. passport. I am hoping by arranging an interview at British Embassy Bangkok they will not require me to hand in my Aus. passport then I can obtain a U.K passport and then register my daughter as British, so she can then enter the Schooling system when we go back to the UK.

I would like to know if this is possible to keep my Aus. passport whilst all of this is going on.

I an not sure why the would need your AUS passport?

I am assuming it must be for ID purposes.

There is a fast track service, passport returned within a week or go to a Passport office and get it done the same day, you do need to be in the UK for these services.

Why do you keep referring to the British Embassy.

They are not involved.

You could go through the process with VFS but the Australian passport seems to be a red herring and at worst you would only need to supply photocopies (if at all).

Why not just use your birth certificate and mail it with the old passport?
