No early nights at Koh Samui. Business as usual until the mornings . All bars etc stay open until sunrise.

Not sure where you are talking about on Samui.... i have been reliably informed that Lamai Beach resorts and bars are all closed at 10.pm........

and last night electricity cuts had many bars just giving up at 8.pm... again in Lamai...

It almost looks like some embassies are trying to make the situation look much more dangerous than it is. Perhaps only because a (not very) democratically elected government is kicked out? Seems the shinas have good pr and networks in f.i. the US and UK. The immense corruption by the shinamaffia that was robbing the country empty seems to be unnoticed.

oh. if you are an American i would write to my congressman in inform them. i told mine that the US ambassador here is already in the shins pocket. (with sources included). cnn is also bought, the only time they ever mention thailands struggle was a few days ago. and thaksin has also bought several US lobbyist... and in singapore too. yes, the US ambassador will do what she can to make the shins happier.

"cnn is also bought, the only time they ever mention thailands struggle was a few days ago."

Wha????? You must be watching some altered-CNN program....it's been on CNN for months!!! Are you eating the right cereal?

This is sad, so many Thai's make there livings after 10:00. Bartenders, Bands, Food service, Tuk-Tuk drivers and a lot more. No TV or internet, no groups of 5 or more outside, what are they suppose to do? Soon those people will not be buying things from people that work in the daytime, all we'll be hurt in the end. So Sad!

The internet outages were just a rumour. If you were able to type here then obviously the internet has been kind to you.

It has never been so calm and peaceful, and our foreign managers think we have to cross 4 checkpoints while avoiding mortar to get to work, so there's no problem arriving at 11 and leaving at 4.

I wish there were coups d'État more often.

Perhaps you should make North Korea your next stop. Very calm and peaceful.

Farang Toorist Chklist for the duration of coup (or what to do while couped up like a chicken)

1. Girl friendly hotel or guest house

2. Stock up on various brands of alcohol and mixers

3. Stock up on snacks

4. Stock up on noodles, pizza, and entrees from Raan Ahaan before curfew

5. Between 6 to 9 pm scout for your LT girlfriend for the evening.

6. Being duly stock up on all provisions, enjoy a nice evening of eating, watching movies, drinking, texting each other, and making whoopie

Rinse and repeat until money is gone or curfew is over.

Evidently the children quoted lack planning abilities (wonder how they made it to BKK?) w00t.gif in my younger military days curfews were a way of life - regardless, I usually managed to get laid, drunk and in the rack on time. Where there is a will.... there's a way.... cheesy.gif (I usually refrain from using cliches.... but they are so handy when an original thought is not needed.) violin.gif.pagespeed.ce.8MK3fN8NTC.gif

You know, I was thinking the same thing.. When I was in the Marines, we always had a curfew, always.. boo hoo..

"In a nutshell can you tell me what Thaksin has done to the country for you to hate him so much?

Thank You"

Is that a serious question ? Passing off your daughter as your sister probably isn't a good start !

Twas a serious question! Are you seriously able to answer it?

Please PM me your reasons as it's a bit off topic here.

Cheers

This coup better not ruin my world cup, or I am going to be really annoyed.

-----------------

I'll be happy.

Overpaid fools running around a field with shorts on and drunken supporters singing are not exciting to me.

not needed or wanted here.

Not wanted by you maybe but very very popular in SE Asia, and very profitable for tourist businesses that can cater for fans.

Dosn't matter where in the world you are when the world cup is on its good for business, if things dont improve before it starts a lot will be looking at other locations close by.

I wouldnt like to be a tourist here and not be able to enjoy a good sing song and festive s during the world cup.

Nope....with a customer slowdown, prices will be raised to make up for the revenue shortfall...

Gosh, what language has this been written in?? As a non-native English speaker, i need to look up every second word in the dictionary:-) Not that it's bad, it is just surprising to run into words I probably never saw before...:-)

This is what happens when a Thai writer/journo acquires 'Education'. They start to use bigger and more impressive words. It doesn't matter that nobody can understand what they are writing - it is gaining massive face for them by knowing long words and this is enormously impressive to other Thai people because they don't understand these clever words either.

The really talented Thai journalists are now studying classical Latin, as understanding this language is the very pinnacle of cultural one-upmanship. (Although I have yet to see any articles appearing in The Nation which have been penned by a Thai in Latin.)

God bless all their little socks. This is most definitely the way to show the other Asian nations who is the top dog when it comes to the upcoming ASEAN community!.

So you are not actually there, then?

I think that's normal actually - nothing ever happens in Lamai so everyone falls asleep at 10:00 pm.

If your reliable informant would haul himself over to the center of the universe in Chaweng, he would probably not quite know what had hit him.

I'm reliably informed that yesterday a whole regiment of soldiers and military brass arrived on Samui by ferry to make sure that news of the curfew had travelled this far south.

But after having spent 20 minutes haggling with the taxi drivers who illegally refuse to use their meters, they all went back to the mainland on the next ferry because they didn't have enough money in their military budget to be able to afford the cost of taxis on Samui.

Business as usual on Samui (although only one bar etc actually stays open till sunrise - obviously the one that mucky69 was in.)

Bizarre - so you need a curfew to get girls back to your condo ? You have to be seriously ugly to have a problem like that !

He probably means that the girls too, have to be off the streets by 11pm, so need a long time deal to stay off the streets until 5am. Can't afford to get kicked out, so more obliging? Fees drop? Get the picture?

try saving money, try socialising with friends. i played drunk risk last night. with my friends.

Wow! That is what I like about some posters. A real positive attitude with some real incentives to come here now and spend thousands of dollars on flights and hotel rooms. So you can sit in your hotel rooms and get Shit-Faced with the same crowd of friends. And just like you do back home!

Some posts on this forum say that curfew starts at 11pm tonight and midnight on Sunday. The main news section says it is still 10pm. Can any one please confirm what the law is. Even the Thai people I ask are confused.

How many coups?!

Early nights in Thailand?!

No World Cup?!

Or Is the bar owner now going to have to pay the army to open until late!

Coups will always happen in Thailand for the obvious reasons but totally agree with governments warning people, as they are responsible..

Now would be a good time to address human rights, because do humans actually have any in Thailand, really?

Apart from the generals...?

If anyone thinks bombs and fighting is in the capital, just go to the Deep South and see blood spilt daily, but this is ok?

No protesters there?

Caused by accepting Malaysian land after world war 2?

Did Thaksin really cause all 12 coups? Did Sudtep?

Anyway all foreigners need to voice opinions, their perspective especially when living in a controlled environment, but voicing it in public is not recommended!

So tourists you have been warned!

< because do humans actually have any in Thailand, really?> I assume you think you have "rights" in any country, other than what the government of the day chooses to allow cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif . Even in the USA, the Obama government ignores the constitution when it feels like it.

There has been a rumor from the first night, that it would go 12-4 at the weekend, and be finished sometime Mon - Wed depending on the rumor.

I have heard no official source on this and have chased it up with bangkok business owners, phuket business owners, pattaya business owners etc.. Each of whom have police contacts.. Yes the rumor is out there but until its officially stated its nothing more than that.

Given the starting of the #anticoup protests, arrests and protests last nigth in Chaing Mai, and the tense situation in illegal gatherings in bangkok yesterday.. I dont see how anyone can predict where things will be with any accuracy. Its day to day depending on what happens next.
