Breaking the curfew. Does anyone have any experience?

General question to the membership.

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of anyone caught breaking the curfew?

My sister-in-law phone around 11-12 last night to say she had just got a taxi to take her home and hasn't been heard of since.

I haven't read or heard anything about breaking the curfew and any penalties.

Anyone have any facts on the matter?

No difference - was out in town at clubs on sat night till 3 am taxi home was fine - no one cares

Motorbike taxi picked me up at 1am. Lots of other people on the roads at that time, and several bars open.

I was at a Bar in Ayudhya when first we were told by Police to go inside the bar if we wanted to keep drinking. 10 minutes later when the soldiers with guns arrived and told us to go home, we promptly did so.

Owner was fined 500 Baht, and told that for a second offence it would be 20,000 Baht and 10 days in jail.

The Police were apologetic but said the Army was running things now.

i can't see why the disappearance of the op's sister-in-law would be curfew related but hope she's ok...

probably just fell asleep at her friend/boyfriend's place and phone battery died or something...

For all intents and purposes there is no curfew. There is certainly no "shoot to kill" curfew or anything resembling it. The authorities might use it against someone they want for some reason, in which case you won't see it or hear about it. That doesn't sound like your sister-in-law. I hope she turned up?

I'd be more concerned about the taxi driver rather than the curfew in this instance. You are in Bangkok?

The curfew seems to be being observed in Ubon. The first night I didn't hear a single vehicle on the road after 10, the next few days people were out a little past the curfew but it was still dead here by 22:30.

I think they've just been giving warnings and telling people to go home here but I heard if you were picked that it would cost 40k to get out. I haven't heard of that happening to anyone though.

BTW, I've seen quite a lot of those 'lost soles' around Bangkok in my time. They just don't make shoes like they used to, do they?

What a heel to talk about lost soles! This is a trick question, right? Admit you are out after curfew? Then if they get bored can come by and pick you up? I don't think so. Even paranoids can have real enemies....
