YALA: -- Southern insurgents continued their violent attacks on civilian targets with the latest bombing of a grocery shop in Yaha district of Yala province Saturday causing a huge fire that engulfed three wooden houses.

Yaha police said they were alerted of the bomb attack at 5.30 a.m Saturday by the owner of a grocery shop Worawat Lohavijarn.

The grocery shop is located near a masjid and a market.

Fire engines rushed to the scene but could put the fire under control an hour later after three houses were burnt to the ground.

The grocery shop owner said he heard a loud explosion which followed by fire. He managed to bring his family out in time before the fire raged to engulf the whole building.

Police sad the insurgents planted a home made bomb at the shop along with a tank of gasoline. The bomb was set to explode by alarm clock.

Meanwhile police in Yala were also alerted Saturday morning of the insurgents felling down a tree to block the Ban Tonyo-Ban Thungka road and placed a poster across the road.

The poster reads ” Patani Merdika.”

The police removed the poster and cleared the area of suspected bombs before allowing traffic to pass.

Witness told police two men in motorcycle were seen in the area with the poster before cutting the tree and tied the poster across the road.

Are these terrorists really that stupid that they think bombing a shop will make any difference to any government anywhere in the world? At least go for the people who make the decisions not the innocents who can do nothing about it.

But of course that would require a modicum of courage and bravery, not something readily associated with your bog standard muslim footsoldier.

No, they're not. We have only a small part of the picture here - we don't know if this shop owner is "innocent" in the eyes of the insurgents.

It's all about intimidation. For radical Muslims, everyone who cooperates with the government is an enemy. They target loyal Muslims too. Every now and then they need to set an example for the rest of the community. Terror in its simplest form. By the way, they kill teachers just for doing their job in the Deep South.

The Federation of Teachers of Three Southern Border Provinces today (Friday) issued a statement condemning the brutal murder of a female teacher in Yala province on the same day.

The latest victim of senseless violence in the Deep South was identified as Ms Siriporn Srichai, a teacher at Ban Tabangdee-ngee school in Tambon Sataeng, Muang district of Yala. She became the 170th teachers killed in the restive region during the past ten years.

Ms Siriporn was riding a motorcycle from home to school Friday morning. She was approached by two suspected insurgents riding in another motorcycle. Then the pillion rider shot her at point-blank range with a pistol and fell on the road. The two assailants then poured gasoline on her body and set in on fire.

Mr Boonsom Thongsriprai, president of the federation, said he felt very sorry for the incident which he described as brutal and heart-shattering. However, he said he wondered why Ms Siriporn travelled alone despite the fact that security forces were available to provide protection to travelling teachers.

Unlike those brave buddhists who attack muslim women and children in Myanmar. Or those brave christians in africa like the lords army who have commited crimes that would make a Nazi blush.

The real issue is not muslims but fanatics of all types who believe they serve a higher 'good'

I'm not denying 'goddists' of all persuasions are guilty of evil but the issue here was muslims terrorists. In fact it's ironic that devil worshippers seem to be the most benign preferring orgies and coffee mornings to violence. wink.png

Why can they stop the violence everywhere else in Thailand but not in the deep south, Same country different rules.

It's time to fight fire with water... Just put them out, forever!

The militry is in full control of the country now, maybe it's time for them to declare an all out war with this muslim terrorist. No parliment approval to worry about.

Doubtful that such will be the case. The bombings are not taking place in Bangkok.

The South is not the real Thailand. Bangkok IS !

Targeting the people of the south will not get attention with the criminals leaders in charge of thailand. Not that I am making suggestions, but eventually they will get smart enough to target Patong, Pattaya, or MBK if they really want to make an impact. Amazes me it hasn't happened. Also amazed the Army is still so unconcerned after 20 years. More have dies there than in all the Burma / Cambodia border conflicts.

Interesting question

Problem is that it is a game of space

War being fought by gaining space

The Muslims there want that land to separate from Thailand right up to the conveniently place map of the Muslim state Malaysian border

I have no doubt that if they achieved their aim which they shall not then they shall keep pushing further into Thailand

The Japs annexed Malaysia and gave the land to the Thai's for being so helpful during the second world war, the land was rich in rice fields so a wellcome gift then, but now ?

The japs in their occupation of Malay took the opportunity to massicare the Chinese, as the indo China war was going on prior to the start of the second world war, hence the excuse they had been waiting for to get into the war, Germany had not invited them .

They separted the Chinese from the Malay villagers, women , children etc and then killed them.

Having taken Singapore , they marched the allied captured troops North to build , thats right the famous railway.

So will they give the land back, ofcourse they will, always do eh !

So by "them" do you refer to terrorist scum or are all muslims to be judged by the actions of the fanatics?

By "put them out" are you advocating a well thought out campaign of building trust amongst communities, whilst demonstrating an ability to protect those who will help root out the terrorist scum as well as tracking down and putting an end to terrorist activities (hopefully with ainimum loss if life on all sides) while addressing the grievances that led to the current violence or do you just want indiscriminate slaughter.

Your post doesn't really indicate your prefered methodology

I thought the border with Malaysia was fixed by the The Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909

A la Redshirts

You managed to take an unrelated topic and still had a sook about the redshirts.

While ignoring the violence of your beloved yellows too. Such a sad life some people have

If anyone needed an example of hypocrisy that is your post. First of all, the topic is about radical Muslims attacking innocent civilians in the deep south once again. So it is about radical Muslims. Them continually attacking and killing civilians is the real issue as far as Thailand is concern.

Nothing to do with Buddhists in Myanmar or Christians in Africa.

Which has what to do with red shirts again...

My reference to other beliefs and their actions was in reply to another post. So my point stands

Interesting that they have determined without doubt that this was the work of Muslim insurgents. Based on what?

An arson fire in the early morning with no casualties sounds more like a business dispute or a family feud.

As for the felled tree, with a banner- that could have been anyone wanting it to look like insurgents. A felled tree across a road with no casualties, and no bombs discovered could have been chalked up to a drunken high school prank where I come from.

Too many holes in these 2 unrelated stories to neatly bundle them as the work of despotic Muslims.

Agree with everything you say, those people are trouble everywhere they go.
