Blatter is at the top of the FIFA tree.If you don't know what's going on within your organisation you shouldn't be there.

Of course he knows the "dirty laundry" but prefers to side step it and bask in the glory of positive announcements and presenting trophies on the world stage, others are left to clean up the mess.

Being on the FIFA committee is a ride on a never ending gravy train. Loads of free travel, great seats at stadiums ,staying in 5 star hotels who would want to get off ?

I would suggest you google FIFA Commitee it makes interesting reading. We have as vice president Julio Grodona ,he's from Argentina and he is 82,been there forever and a day. Other VP'S include representatives from football power houses like Papua New Guinea and the Cayman Islands and people wonder how Blatter can have lasted so long there is your answer, simple vote buying arithmetic.

Of course in built corruption is nothing new look at the Olympic movement.

If you think Blatter didn't benefit from all of this, you're barking.

Remember when FIFA's Head of Finance tried to spill the beans? They gave him a massive pay-off with an NDA to match.

Let Qatar have it, what is the problem. Australia doesn't deserve it as soccer is not really a big sport in Australia. It is a minor sport behind rugby league, rugby union, AFL, cricket, motor racing and things like horse racing ie Melbourne Cup. It is was down the list when it comes to sports in Australia. It will not provide a return for Australia and will be a huge loss to the taxpayer.

soccer is a bigger sport in australia than it is or ever will be in qatar. has a lot of fans there and the league is gaining momentum all the time. but you're right about a world cup not providing a return. that's FIFA for you.

Australia has more active participants in football of the soccer variety than League ,Union and AFL combined. Women's football is the fastest growing sport in the land. That does not always reflect in attendances but they drew over 90,000 people to Melbourne for a Liverpool friendly.Juventus will be going to the same venue shortly and it will be a sell out 90,000 +. Australia is a land of migrants be they Italian Greek,Dutch,Polish,British etc the game is in the genes.

Attendances in League and union are in decline,Only 8,000 turned up for a Sydney RL game last weekend .The CEO of the Australia Soccer set up is David Gallop who use to be head honcho at Rugby League headquarters, he was sacked by RL headquarters and is now making his mark in our sport. Its not news but League Union and AFL are very concerned at the growth of our game which has very little media coverage due to the Murdoch media empire backing RL. We are currently the only growth sport in relation to crowd attendances

As for the Melbourne Cup...excuse me......... its one day a year and a public holiday, the only country in the world that stops for a horse race.... is that relevant ?

There is a slim chance that the WC, if it would be held in Australia, would make positive financial return as all the infrastructure is in place as it is a carry over from the Olympic Games,of course that would also depend on what slice FIFA took.

...our game which has very little media coverage due to the Murdoch media empire backing RL.

Sounds like it's got reasonable coverage to me...

"On 19 November 2012, free-to-air Australian public broadcasting television network SBS secured the shared rights, alongside long-time A-League broadcasters Fox Sport, to the A-League from the 2013–14 season with a A$160 million four-year broadcast deal. In New Zealand the league has been broadcast on Sky Sport since its inaugural season.

The growth of coverage of the A-League outside Australia has seen the league broadcast in 65 countries around the world. Full match broadcasts are available in the United States, China, Italy, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Canada, the Caribbean, Hong Kong, Singapore and Myanmar. In addition to the full match broadcasts, highlights of A-League matches can be viewed in 53 countries throughout Asia and the Middle East, including Japan and South Korea. In 2014, a three season deal with TEN Sports allowed the league to be broadcast live in Asian nations including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Every A-League match is also live streamed globally, allowing games to be viewed online through a subscription service provided in a partnership with FFA."

So basically it goes to more countries than the egg chasing.

Didn't England arrange to play Thailand in a friendly that would have made FIFA committee member, Worawi Makudi, a very happy man. And then pull the plug when they didn't get his vote. Amounts to the same thing as Qatar dishing out a couple of million quid - sheesh! , the amount involved (3 million quid?) wouldn't even buy you a dodgy Scottish goalkeeper.

Why would he personally have benefited it from it? All England agreed to do was play in a friendly in return for his vote. It was all quite transparent.

Let's see Qatar itemise how much they actually bribed people.

Then I'd be tempted to agree with you.

No real need to worry.

Things are being looked after by an NGO called the International Centre for Sports Security (ICSS), whose mission statement runs:

“The essence of sport – integrity of competition and a safe, secure environment in which to watch and play – is precious. At the heart of the ICSS is the belief that we have a responsibility to protect this for present and future generations.

It is based in, er Doha, Qatar.

Not according to Lord Triesman, who suggested otherwise - but only after they didn't get Makudi's vote.

And with the benefit of ancient immunity.

Does anyone watch SBS and isn't the government cutting the station along with the Australia Network.

As I understand it its only funding for the ABC and SBS that will be cut for Australian audiences,Both will continue on a reduced budget. The Australia ABC network, seen and loved through Asia, is due to be closed completely in September.Hugely dumb decision as the network is virtually a 24 hour a day ad for Australia and what is has to offer tourists and investment.

Print media in Australia is dominated by the Murdoch Empire which controls nearly every major newspaper in the country. 4 pages of RL news and a by line for our football.

Announced tonight that FIFA will hold an enquiry into itself laugh.png regarding corruption for the selection of Qatar.

That should make us all feel better.

In time Blatter will be able to announce that after a full frank, thorough and exhaustive enquiry it has shown there was no corruption in the bid.

The "FIFA family" as he likes to call it will be of one voice.

I'm all for the momentum, but my best guess is that Adidas and Sony are just trying to get out in front of the issue. Where have they been up til now ?

I'm sure there will be a bunch of corporate whoares climbing on the bus before its all over with.thumbsup.gif

oh aye, quite mate. it's not like there hasn't been attention around it along the way. and it isn't like western media hasn't been reporting the deaths of hundreds of migrant workers working on stadium builds as part of the bullsh*t project. whole thing makes me sick to be honest and FIFA make me feel like a complete hypocrite for still loving the game.

Yes, Blatter has paid off so many of them for votes over the years, they are hardly going to start throwing him and the rest to the wolves, are they?

This answers a debate we were having on here as to whether it would be possible for Qatar to sue FIFA, should FIFA cancel.

World Cup 2022 special report: No legal action for Qatar if Fifa strips country of tournament

Qatar will not be able to mount a legal challenge to Fifa if football's governing body strips it of the right to stage the 2022 World Cup. As controversy continues to rage over allegations of corruption surrounding the bid process, it has emerged that Qatar agreed to sign away its right to take any form of legal action against Fifa when it made its original tender for the tournament in 2010.

The Independent on Sunday can also reveal that a mechanism is available to football's governing body to order a new vote whereby infringements of its code of ethics are cited.

The rest of your bizarre statements don't deserve any comment. <deleted>.

Very corrupt, where did I say they weren't ?

Plenty of betting on soccer in Vegas though miniscule compared to the major USA sports.

TVisa takes a dim view of wagering talk. So this post might get waxed.thumbsup.gif
