Farang Price @ Sirindhorn Museum Kalasin

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I am presently standing outside Sirindhorn Museum waiting for my family to come out. I have toured the museum at least four times and have always paid the Farang price of ฿100 compared to ฿40 for Thais. Usually it doesn't bother me, and perhaps tourists should pay a premium, but I'm not a tourist, I have been living here for almost eleven years now and haven't left the country for almost five years. Last time I brought my family to the museum, I started to think that without me, they wouldn't be enjoying this beautiful museum and yet for my kindness of brining family and friends I was charged two and a half times their price. I had heard that people have shown a Thai driver's license and been admitted for the Thai price, so this time I thought I would try that. Well no can do, they insisted on the Farang price. Since I have seen the museum many times before I decided to pay for my family and friends and wait outside and write this little rant as my form of objecting to the Farang pricing. For tourists perhaps there is some justification, but I live here, will die here and consider myself at least half Thai, I should get the Thai price.

I'm sure I will pay the Farang price and go in next time, it is after all a great Museum.

Standing outside in protest over having to pay 100 baht vs. 40 baht while waiting for your family who is inside having a great time.

Surely there are bigger battles. We only go around once on this great rock. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Same thing happen to me at a place , best I could describe as a park/ garden, I was with about ten Thais , it cost me more than double, I was even sitting in the back of a pickup trying to hide my face. I learn't a long time ago one price for thai one for non Thai ..... I just accept but I always think what would happen if I tried to do the same in my country , I think I would be labeled something , think it starts with the r sound, love to live here , love my Thai family, accept not the same as where I was born, amazing Thailand

My thai wife always seem to have more problems with it than me too pay the Farang price for me.. She has an argument every time at the different ticket offices.m one time after a trip of several hours she wanted to go back home instead of paying extra for me. We where wih a minibus of family ..... For me. I don,t care pay it and

It was just an opportunity to express my disgust at having to pay two and a half times the Thai rate. It won't change anything and I probably won't do it again. Also I have been inside many times so thought I'd take some quiet alone time. I am posting, because I thought I read somewhere that someone paid the Thai price after showing his driver's license, I did a search, but nothing came up.

Most of these museums and such are crap anyway, so you ain't missing much.

Whilst i tend to agree with the quality of the museums etc i may have chosen a more subtle way of describing them

in any case i took more pleasure out of my family's enjoyment in showing me the local venues

to add to that and closer to the original subject the last time i went to the dinosaur museum it was free as it was kids day Thailand everyone paid nothing tongue.png

Mostly crap then.

So after being here 11 years, old issangeorge still gets riled by the Farang double pricing, boo hoo,you know the score, your not half Thai not even a third, life's to short to rant and rave about 60 baht.

Plus the fact you've been there countless times, the people behind the ramp probably had a right good laugh to themselves about the stingy Farang.

11 years in Thailand?

You better get your Tambien Baan, Yellow residents book.

Then you will never complaint again about tourist overpricingthumbsup.gif

I'm anti farang price and have had different experiences at different national parks or other tourist spots. Some places let me in for Thai price and others don't. Some of the little piles of stones in a paddock aren't worth Thai price in my opinion let alone farang price. Some of the smaller places near surin wanted B200 to look at a pile of rocks.ohmy.png

The dinosaur museum is value for money even when paying farang price. I thoroughly enjoyed looking through it. It had plenty to offer and kept me interested.

I agree the Dinosaur Museum is worth ฿100, and I have paid it before, but today was a nice day for sitting outside and I have seen the museum many times and just felt today would be a good day to do my little protest, that was noticed by nobody, made no difference, will not be repeated, but gave me time to write my little rant. Every once in a while expressing your opinion is good for the soul.

You'll enjoy life more here if you just accept the fact that you're living in a racist culture. You're not going to change anyone's mind.

Heck, the Thais are even racist towards each other. Dark-skinned students are regularly shunned and ridiculed in our university classrooms. Worse, when they graduate, they face dim employment prospects when trying to compete with their fairer-skinned colleagues.

Very true, just don't expect changes within the same lifetime.

Okay, people are correct when then say we cannot win, but I wonder if it does any harm to let the organisations know we don't like the dual pricing. So I can sympathise with George.

In answer to the threadstarter..... How much taxes are you paying to Thailand???? I think that, THAT should be the main issue here...

Most people who lives here NEVER pay taxes, and are not contributing that way to Thailand..... So why should we go in for the very same price as a thai citizen,, are you nuts guys??

Glegolo

Are you all nuts guys????? As long as we do not pay any taxes to Thailand like thai citizensmostly are... We have no right in asking for the same price.... To buld a museum costs money,, and you and me we have NOT contributed at all to that!!

So one price for thai - and one price for falang is fair..... But most of you seems to look for something else than fair I guess.. It is mostly me me me me...

Glegolo

Tourist or not it's plain and simple racism. And it's the first time I've heard about this two price system in Isaan except Phimai outside Korat where it's 100 Baht farlang and 25 Baht Thai.

I NEVER go to places like that. And I hope no one else does either. Because I think that is the way to go to get rid off this garbage. I would say "shame on you Thailand".

How many taxes does the average tourist pay in ANY country to which they take a holiday? Using your ludicrous criteria, dual pricing would be rife across the globe, yet it isn't.

Most tourists to Thailand will pay tax on every beer, hotels, meals and so on so your argument falls flat on it's backside I'd guess that after 11 years here Isaangeorge has worked here, therefore paid plenty of tax

everywhere for God sake... everywhere!!

Yes take ONE exeption among all you complainers and wheepers... Most of you guys live down "there" as tourists and

pays absolutley nothing to Thailand..... My argument if you cant see it... is that you (me), we are NOT citizens or

thai, and it is NOT our country..... I do not bloody care what goes on in the rest of the world... We are here and

now, and what is valid outside has no bearing at all here..... Drink as much beers as you like, but pay up these

small fees ....

When I landed on Koh Samet, it was 40 baht for my wife to get on to the island and 400 baht for me.

You failed comprehensively to address one single point I made but seem stuck in some bizarre mindset. How do you know we "Moaners and Wheepers [sic]" don't pay anything here tax wise or is that just some bizarre guess?

I pay as much, if not more, tax than any of my Thai mates here yet would have to pay more to go into a place funded by my taxes?

Your assumption that tourists contribute nothing to Thailand is bordering on the preposterous. You clearly have no idea how such things work.

What do you mean we pay no taxes we pay VAT just like anybody else and contribute probably more to the Thailand than you think, with many of us helping to support the extended families, and we would spend more than the average Thai in our day to day living

I would love someone to work out how much we expat bring into this country every month and how many Thai families we are helping to support, and then justify the duel pricing

Carry little stink bombs with you.

Leave one off as you go to leave the counter. :)

You could quote all the figures in the world,it wouldn't help one iota.

Some people are being supported by their Thai families. Some people don't have Thai families to support, while working here for hundred of thousands of baht p/m.

Not everybody marries into peasant rice farmers and then take on the role of ATM.

Not that I am agreeing or disagreeing but do know that if one is a Florida resident, he/she can access Disney World etc for a cheaper rate than the rest of us.
