Hi! We are family of 4 with two kids (5 and 7). We have never been in Thailand before and we are arriving to Samui, Lamai, in a week. We are looking for a place to stay - nicer - better, but we are limited with 15 thousand baht for 4 weeks. Is it possible to find an appropriate guesthouse for this price? Would you recommend one?

try again and get the numbers right. 15000 baht for just accommodation should be ok, but not for everything. dont ask me where because i dont go there. it is a beautiful island so figure out why its horrible.

where would i recommend instead? for islands, east coast down towards the cambo border. less tourist beaten but still beautiful and enough facilities.

I wouldn't be staying with my kids anywhere that cost 3,500 baht for a week. Guess it all depends on your expectations, if they are low you may be ok.

You can rent a house for 7-15 K / month but it's probably best not to tell you'll only stay one month... Just look for monthly rentals, pay one month and leave after 4 weeks or however long you stay. When you say beds for 4, I assume two double beds would be enough? Shouldn't be too much trouble. 1 double + 2 singles might be a bit trickier.

Try Daddy Resort Maenam. It is low season now so you should be ok . They are not very busy right now as all their '4 monthly' Europeans have gone home for the summer. It is near the Lompraya Ferry.

Have you booked a place for a few days in lamai? You can get a place for your budget but I do wonder why people pay for the flight and then live like a homeless person don't your children deserve better?

In thinking about that idea of renting a house.... Most landlords will require a deposit.... and some may not return it.... unless agreed in advance... just a thought! wink.png

To the OP try Oldsailor35 suggestion, at Daddies, it is not that bad looking thumbsup.gif .... Also more or less in the same area about 1 km away is New Sunrise Villa .... but there are a number of places around that are decent for more or less the money you have on your budget...wink.png

OK, I guess that's the case on Samui. Never paid or been asked to pay a deposit on KPG, or heard of anyone paying a deposit here.

Also, how many resorts have cooking facilities? If not being able to cook is not an issue it opens up some more options.

Lamai Chalet down by Hin Ta Hin Yai has a number of stand alone double chalets and there is an internal door. Let me see if I can find a picture....

Listed as wood bungalows. This time of year the Swiss owner (PumPoi) might give a good rate for a whole double for a month, cash upfront.

Yep resorts don't have kitchens, usually .... that is why I said earlier in the tread they need to find a house! ....

They are around both in Lamai and Maenam and other areas... not usually advertised especially the lower priced ones! ...
