Can anyone tell me what I can do about two dogs that terrorise everybody & everything in the street around the corner from us?

The dogs do have Thai owners and wear collars.

One's a staffie sized typical Thai mongrel & the other is a pathetic Shit.zu with the biggest mouth and smallest balls.

Their gate is hardly ever closed so the moment anybody comes down the street, the dogs run out if their garden and viciously bark and try to bite the person walking, person riding the bicycle and bike itself; same goes for motorbikes and cars...

One of the dogs has bitten so many people that the owners have been ordered to muzzle it, which they very rarely do until it claims another victim!

When I take my 2 burley German Shepherds out for their daily dump ON A LEAD! Their dogs will come out and provoke my dogs.

I must admit that I just let it have it one day it got too close and they got ahold of it MUCH to my pleasure...

I wanted my dogs to kill the bloody thing and they nearly did until the Thai owner came out with a length of 2x2 so I pulled my dogs off... Of course...

We had a shouting match in the street to no avail and all that's changed is that his dogs just terrorise at a distance

I've tried several times run the bloody things over but they're just too quick to jump out the way! Bugger...

I just had another go after coming back from an errand to no avail and the owner came out with his 2x2 threatening/swinging at my car but missed...

I could go on all day with scenarios as I've tried just about everything to solve the issue... Would I be p!$$!ng against the wind to get the police involved?

Any SENSIBLE ideas people?

One that doesn't involve poisoning as that would only cause my dogs to be poisoned obviously...

And NO, my spouse & I do not have a gun license...

I just wonder in these instances if you being a foreigner is partly the problem, say you were a Thai, what would his reaction be then ? I'm quite sure that he wouldn't get half as angry ! I know this doesn't answer your question but it was just a thought.

Please just search through this forum for threads on neighbours nuisance dogs. There must be 3/4 of these a month. The truth is you have to man up and confront the owners and explain your discomfort to them and hope they don't take exception to you and then actually do something.

Nothing to do with maning up is it, more a case of the OP probably not being able to speak good enough Thai to reason with the guy, if you have a Thai wife get her to speak with him.

Doubt if you will get anywhere so perhaps look for another area even it means putting the dogs in the car and driving somewhere, much less stressfull.

The best thing that you can do when you take your dogs for their daily DUMP is walk the other way and don't go past their territory., the same when riding your bike. You won't cure the problem but it will not be yours anymore.

I'm sure that being a farang has a lot to do with his ignorance & arrogance and that fact that my dogs would and wanted to kill his dogs on top of the fact that EVERY Thai male (not man) are scared of big dogs like GSD's also has a lot to do with it!

Please just wind your neck in for a minute and read what I wrote again... Tut tut...

You seem to think there's a limit on how many questions can be asked on the same topic?

You're wrong there, Mate!

We can ask what we want in accordance to the T&C's...

FYI, I browsed through but couldn't find anything relating to dogs regarding this situation where certain dogs are known to be terrorising and biters hence why it's been ordered to be muzzled.

Man up he says... Tut tut...

Do you honestly think I haven't tried talking to him initially?

I've lived in Thailand for 15 years and do pretty well with my Thai, I've even learnt a few Thai profanities from this (Tuk Tuk driver) fool, much to the dismay of the my Mrs!

She was p!$$ed off when I repeated what he said to me!

My mrs is above talking to scum like him and refuses to waste her time on him.

I told him to close his gate and have closed it myself several times beforehand during my dog walks... I even closed it & padlocked the bloody thing!! That just p!$$ed him off even more because he had to climb over THREE TIMES because the dumb C didn't think of taking a cutting tool the 1st time! That's why he drives a Tuk Tuk I suppose...

I DID write, "any SENSIBLE ideas?"

For the likes of you...

I live in a dead end street and AT the end in fact,

This only happens when I can't be bothered to load them in the car and take them elsewhere only to be terrorised by the stray dogs which as you know hang around in packs!!

I take my trusty baseball bat & ball yet they never dare come close enough to get some... The sound of the taser gun scares them away but doesn't stop them barking at my dogs.

Anyway

This rental contract is over in 3 months...

Can't wait to get away and leave a nice piece of tainted chicken for the troublesome one.. It'll certainly make all the football players at the astro pitch much happier ;)

Dog's can smell a puss a mile away. If you show fear, that's weak man. Get some of those little cracker balls, that blow up and even have some shrapnel when you throw them on the ground. I throw them by the handful to garner respect from the bully dogs. The nice dogs i share some chicken or pork with. One big male dog escorts me past the troublesome red colored dog pack. He gets liver for that everyday. Some yaba freak poisoned some dogs to steal a motorcycle, i wonder where that guy is anyway, he seemed to vanish and leave his things behind?. Be careful what parting shots you make, it could come back and bite you on the backside!

Last month my dog die

He was very friendly, proberbly some locals give h poison ...

Could be heart worm. I give our dogs a pill every month to prevent this, and we neutered them to keep them closer to home.

I say you are provoking their dogs walking yours in front of the house.

Can't you go another way, or take your dogs out in a vehicle to bypass the problem.

I am worried the way you are escalating the problem with your neighbour.

I am sorry to say I find most dog owners rather inconsiderate wrt the problems their animals cause.

If you do manage to hurt one of these dogs, be careful.

Well it looks like most here insist on retaliation as it's the Thai way...

Being annoyed is not a show of fear, how can I show fear of a with two burley GSD's on a lead? It just don't figure...?

This dog is all mouth and no balls, runs like hell the moment I turn the corner and my dogs & their ears prick up, the chicken shit dog just runs inside it's gate like the coward it is. Especially since my dogs got ahold of it!

It needs to be put down before it bites another child.

I have seen so many of these posts over the years about terrible soi dogs. I suggest spending a few days and evenings checking out a specific soi, once you have found a good house to rent, before jumping in head first. Between soi dogs, roosters, and noisy neighbors, there is a lot to concern yourself about when renting or buying a home here.

yes,"proberbly" he was too quiet and smiling .

Thais don't like that.coffee1.gif

...i think you need to rethink the "poison pill in a chunk of meat" idea and carefully execute it while keeping your dogs inside your property. Perhaps tossing these chunks of meat over the gate late at night???

Do not approach his dogs directly but at an angle working closer as if you were going to pass them, but working closer. In other words, do not walk directly at them but approach them with the side of your body. Do not make direct eye contact with them. Do this a few times without your dogs and bring the tiniest amount fresh ground beef or pork and drop a very tiny morsel where they will surely find it. Let his dogs lick up a tiny bit of meat and be on your way. The meat has your scent and his dogs will begin to associate your scent with meat. Later, you can kneel down sideways and may be able to pet them and let them lick your hands after handling meat. Eventually, you can try bringing your dog along and when you do this it is best to kneel down between your dogs and his dogs. What you have to avoid is being seen feeding his dogs because if someone ever poisons them you will be blamed. This is why you drop the tiniest amount, less than the size of your pinky fingernail.

Failing this, a very mild solution of water and ammonia, or even liquid soap and water, in a squirt gun will discourage any tendency to advance in most situations, but do not squirt the dogs directly unless they attack. Squirt it past them nearest their noses. The scent of this mixture works amazingly well as a deterrent.

Very bad advice. An altercation has already occurred with the owner of these annoying dogs. If they are poisoned Hua Hin Expat will be number one suspect and may even lose his own life or certainly that of his own dogs.

I sympathize with the OP. Had problems from dogs on the loose many times while walking mine (properly leashed). Resolved some of them by calling in Pattaya City vet who instructs the dogs owners to keep them off public property and in some cases have removed the dog if it has no owner. If your area has a city vet then go see him and discuss the matter. You could also try Public Health if you can get some evidence of the problem dogs pooping in the street and the owner does not clean up.

It's still not an easy task taking my dog for a walk but most of the problem mutts stay clear now as they've all received pepper spray to the face or been struck with the stick I carry.

Incidentally my 30kg Labrador never makes a sound while walking and completely ignores all advances by the mutts.

Hot peppers in the blender, with water and some vinegar. Filter out the debree put in a spray bottle or squirt gun and just a subtle spray or two, problem solved. Use it from my bicycle, turns monsters into wimps!

To the OP I've had similar problems when I walk my English Bull Terrier and Labrador in my estate. My solution ultimately has been to drive the dogs elsewhere for the daily walk. If this isn't possible I would suggest letting your dogs off the lead when the troublesome dogs approach. As for the guy I'd take my phone and video him when he has his piece of timber and when he's swearing then go along to the local cop shop with your wife and report it. Hope this helps I know this kind of crap can really get you down.

Let us face it, dogs are dogs, I have had many soi dogs as you, might call them.... Guess it just the natural instinct for them to protect the turf.... Many Thai's have them especially if you live in agricultural areas... the dog is there to protect the property, alert the owners if there are strangers walking by.... But hey, maybe they are just doing what the owners expect them to do. Do these people parade their dogs by your home? I have always found, like most dogs they are territorial.... Just to protect the home...... Remember... You are living on their turf... Just my thought... kilosierra

Iam using a device called dazer 2 from USA aprox 2500 baht , makes a ultra noise , that only dog can here

And pain in ear run away!

I assume your comment is regarding how the manufacturer markets it...or this is your observation? Does it work? I jumped in this thread because I was chased down the street while jogging yesterday. I have a terrifying system to deal with occasional dogs like this- but I think I'd not call my technique wise. As they race toward me barking I spin around and charge them screaming. I am bound to get hurt with this option. It works but still doesn't seem bright- at all! Does this Dazer2 work? Have you only tested on sedentary dogs? Tried on soi dog barking?
