It's these kind of stupid comments which really makes me wonder what the psychological makeup of a lot of posters could be. There seems to be some sort of vicarious pleasure at seeing the washing away of rights of free speech and democratic representation.

It's either because these people have never had much choice in their lives - so feel some pleasure when they see the choices of others taken away or its because they like the idea of power and control even if its watching someone else exercise it. Or maybe there is another reason.

There is in fact a glaring similarity here, to those that like to hang around those with power; hanging on their words, filling up their glass, polishing their golf shoes, boosting their sense of greatness.

Wealth and power by association are very addictive driving forces and are the cause of a lot of the sicknesses in the political sphere.

When one makes comments it is often useful to ask the questions : am I happy because this choice / privilege is something I have never had, so I'm glad when its taken away from another

am I happy because I can benefit from or are affiliated with the powerful and that by logic makes me somewhat powerful

Power, wealth and strength by association are very powerful forces - who likes to be on the losing team. It infultrates our thinking in more places than you would realise.

3 Years ago we had a large number of posters who slagged off anyone opposing PTP, as time went by and things started to get itchy for them, their numbers dwindled, and therefore anti gov posters became more loud, backed by the protesters until the PTP cracked, self destructed, now we have this situation and a light at the end of the tunnel we hope, only a skeleton crew of pro PTP posters remain--Custers last stand.

So there was some sense in backing the right horse, it gives me some relief to think although I do not have a vote I am happy for Thai people.

The poll is probably correct but polls carry no credibility outside a democratic framework.

And let's hope you are much less pessimistic. Have you read that except for a very few, all detained people have been released and there are very few others being asked to report in? At the rate so far, looks like they are very far away from having "thousands" in the next six months.

A good point. I hadn't noticed that. Normally they mention how many provinces were included in the poll but I can't see it mentioned this time which makes me wonder if the poll sample was evenly distributed. I assume that the answers were given anonymously otherwise that would impact on the results as well.

At the moment there's not a lot to complain about other than the fact that it's not easy to voice peaceful dissent. It remains to be seen what happens in the long run.
