Meteorological Department warns Bangkok residents to brace for rains

BANGKOK, 16 June 2014 (NNT) - The Meteorological Department has said that parts of Bangkok and its suburbs are set to face thunderstorms as well as heavy rains.

Monsoons blowing in from northern Thailand and the southwestern Andaman Sea would be covering many parts of the country. Therefore, people are warned to brace for possible floods and heavy downpours for the next 1-2 days.

As waves in the Andaman Sea could be as high as 3-4 meters, the department has warned boat operators to be prepared whenever they set sail. The department also stated that the tropical storm HAGIBIS would be slowly coming in from the North China Sea. It is expected that the storm would arrive later today. Passengers who are traveling to Hong Kong and Taiwan are advised to check the weather forecast before setting out on the journey.

Bangkok and its suburbs are set to be covered by large volumes of clouds, with a 80 percent chance of a thunderstorm. The lowest temperatures are reported at 26 to 28 degrees Celsius and the highest temperatures at 33 to 35 degrees Celsius.

I would welcome that weather here in CM, as long as it is not on Monday or Wednesday between the hours of 2:00pm-2:30pm and 5:00pm-5:30pm. Not nice when your on a motorbike, but after i can sit on the bancony and feel relaxed.

The drains and khlongs have been cleared ahead of the rainy season to help ease flooding, traffic etc?

Time to release some water from the dams, prepare for climax October...

Two months ago they were saying releasing much more water and you would be able to walk across them! ... well not really but it said levels at Bhumibol and Sirikit were critically low, whatever that means. Think a bit of rain may be a blessing, look like we will be safe in BK for another year.

Bring on the rain and the cooler weather ............

Thank goodness there will be no floods. But wait - does that still apply? giggle.gif

The department also stated that the tropical storm HAGIBIS would be slowly coming in from the North China Sea.

Although Hagibis is well north of Guangdong, thousands of km away from Thailand, tracking northward and dissipating? What sort of meteorological logic is that?

Logic?

Have you ever thought of visiting Thailand? whistling.gif

Who was it that said "He who searches for pearls, must first dive into the sea"?

According to this report if this storm is half as bad as they think you'll believe the sea has come to you,

Time to get the waders and dinghies out lads or another media false alarm?

"As waves in the Andaman Sea could be as high as 3-4 meters, the department has warned boat operators to be prepared whenever they set sail."

That's ok. We know from the Guardian which operators will be primed to be prepared, and we know they are not Thai operators with a lot of choices. blink.png

Is it sandbag time yet? We still have ours from lat year piled up at the side of the house in readiness.

Those meteorological experts have been forecasting heavy rain for months. Still dry as can be in the NE.

A Blue Peter badge for the first unqualified idiot who takes out a boat load of tourists and sinks it.

That would require an upgrade to our Platinum weather-on-demand service.

Brace yourselves, this could be a big one!

Funny enough, just last week a had a chance to look at Klong Samwa, where we had some protests during the big flood. It looks completely green again. ....

If you read the sentence following it is quite clear that this is a travel warning.

Come on mother nature, give me all you got. you big mostly empty wuss!!!

Brace yourselves, this could be a big one!

Is that what you say to all the girls?

Have the BMA cleaned the storm water pipes and waterways as they are supposed to? Are there any flood prevention projects on the infrastructure priority list? When last did BKK flood? Some people have short memories.

Has the heavy rain been predicted for your location? We have not exactly been getting slammed but plenty of rain landing in Chiangmai. Aw what the heck give them a break- they don't have the benefit of your all-encompassing knowledge to produce the perfection that you expect.biggrin.png
