Where to find blender and peanut butter

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am coming to Chiang Mai this weekend. I am hoping to find a blender somewhere in the old city or by the night bazaar area. Any suggestions on places to look?

Also, do you know of any stores or restaurants that sell homemade peanut butter?

Thanks!

For the blender I would go to Siam TV which is very close to the moat address below - sorry but don't know about home made peanut butter only store bought stuff as sold in Rimping etc.

Chiang Mai Bread (find on Facebook) do peanut butter, can't remember if its 50 or 60B. Fantastic with their multigrain bread.

Rimping Markets have Tida's PB.. excellent with no additives.

Tida's is good, but the quality is inconsistent. I got a couple of bad batches and went back to Jif. I just ordered the 900g size of creamy that the poster above recommended, and can't wait to try it.

Not sure how you're traveling to CM but if by plane, on your way from the airport stop at airport plaza where you'll find loads of places selling blenders, you could actually walk there from the airport.

As for peanut butter: go to any of the Rimping Supermarket stores, there's one near the airport. Alternatively go to Yoks' bakery supplies (google)

Finally, if none of those things work out for you, any Tesco or Big C will do the trick.

Afaid that I would have given up PB completely than go back to Jif! You're brave...

Looking forward to your report on the PB from Lamphun... I gave them a query about getting cruchy this morning and have an answer already... not bad at all in the response department... now for the taste.

Yes, they do make crunchy, no extra charge and is an option when one goes into their shopping cart.

I think the OP is looking for peanut butter without any added fat or sugar and maybe even no added salt. Rimping supermarket carries a few brands. As for blenders, do you have any specs in mind? Basically, how powerful a blender do you want? And how durable do you want it to be? Better quality blenders might be hard to come by in the old city.

Thanks! I have contacted the company that was mentioned earlier in this thread and plan to order from them.

I only want a blender to make fresh fruit smoothies so nothing too powerful is necessary (I won't be blending ice, maybe some frozen fruit though). I'd love to have something as small as a magic bullet but not sure if I can find that here in Thailand. As far as durability, I'm only here for 4-5 more months so it doesn't have to be too durable.

You are going to find both at any of the shopping malls.

Big C carries a blender called SmartHome which is somewhat a copy of the magic bullet.

I have never used the Magic Bullet so I can't really compare but it looks similar in design and nicely compact and only 700 baht.

keep in mind that the product that was promoted above contains sugar and oil and is 135 Baht for 400 grams. you can get 500 grams for 120 Baht at YOK and it contains NO sugar or oil; only peanuts and salt. they do sell the same product sweetened but the unsweetened one is already plenty sweet.

it is so simple to make your own peanut butter it's silly. you could have flunked high school and still be able to make it! and it ends up costing a fraction of what you pay for someone else to make it. we always get the raw nuts at Makro. they are cheaper there than anywhere else. i see Kad Luang plugged often for nuts but they are more expensive and not nearly as fresh as Makro has a very high turnover. you just toast the nuts in the frying pan - no oil. after they have cooled just throw them in the blender or food processor along with sea salt to your liking and blend. you will need to use one of those rubber spatulas to turn the paste from time to time. process it until it is as smooth [or as crunchy] as you like. we always use about 20-25% cashew nuts (also from Makro) in the mix and it tastes great. sometimes we add a very small amount of coconut oil for a really nice taste. you can make a huge supply very cheap and store it in an airtight plastic bucket in the fridge. it will remain fresh for many months.

I see you have your answers for peanut butter looks good to me.

Siam has good blenders and you might not want to get them. Cheap ones at Big C Tesco. Also in the Airport mall I would check with Robinsons there as they seemed to have the best cheap ones when we were looking around. But that was a while ago.

When checking out you can request in the special note section for them to not add sugar or salt!

I love making my own peanut butter back in the states but unfortunately here I don't have an oven, stove, or food processor!

Macro has high powered blenders, so does Siam TV near the moat. So does Index. Anything you buy that is 1000w+ is going to blend literally anything you put in it.

I use the CLEO brand. Had it a few years, would blend my phone into dust if I put it in there.

I have seen the Magic Bullet for sale in Amorn Electronics store at Big C in Hang Dong. Sorry cannot recall price.

www.KingPeanutButterCompany.webs.com. They will mail it directly to you

Once again, the true value of ThaiVisa forums reveals itself. Elgordo's recommendation above directed me to the website for King Peanut Butter Company of Lamphun:

http://kingpeanutbuttercompany.webs.com/

I have been addicted to peanut butter for more than sixty years. I have tasted the cheapest (Peter Pan, Sunny Jim, etc), the medium (Skippy and Jif), and the best (Adams, and various specialty shops expensive custom made), and I can say this: King's is the best peanut butter I have ever eaten. I ordered the 900 gram size creamy from their website, and less than 48 hours later it was delivered by Thailand post to my home. They also make cashew butter, and will customize your order to taste.

Not only is the product superior, their online business is a model of simplicity and ease of use. They offer several ways to pay (I chose Paypal), and they email you immediately upon receipt of payment, and get the product out to you promptly. How are you going to beat 249 baht for great peanut butter (2 pounds!) shipped prepaid to your home? The postage alone is 38 baht, and it comes in a fresh Thai post box tied with string. The one pound size (454 g) Jif is 158 baht at Tops.

I have often been tempted to make my own with a blender, but it just seems like more bother than I can deal with. So thanks to elgordo38 and TV for the great tip. This is the GOOD STUFF! What a find.

Tida's is good, but the quality is inconsistent. I got a couple of bad batches and went back to Jif. I just ordered the 900g size of creamy that the poster above recommended, and can't wait to try it.

Yes, very inconsistent. Suddenly a bottle turns up of p butter that's so dry that one can only chuck it away.

Have to stir the oil into the peanut butter... it's like the old stuff before the manufactuers started adding emulsifiers and all of the other junk additives.

Really old thread but I'm posting my experience here in respect of King Peanut Butter.

The butter itself may be the best I've ever tasted but I'm not sure I'll order again. Why? Quite simply the packaging is atrocious. I don't know whether it's always been the same as this but my order for 2 x 2lb came in two vacuum sealed polythene packs. Inside of that were two polythene pouches and in each of those a further one polythene pouch. Trouble the were all leaking so each layer of polythene was smeared with fairly substantial amounts of butter / oil which frankly was a real PITA to scrape off, let alone very, very messy.

I'd be happy to order again but only if the product came in polythene tubs or pots, even if it incurred extra cost. It's just too much of pain otherwise. I reckon at least 100-150g was wasted witch the second 2 1b of the order due to the extent of the leakage and the sheer difficulty in scraping both side of the wrapping and getting it out of the corners etc.

If push comes to shove I'd rather get the most additive light product I can find in a supermarket simply for the convenience of plastic tubs that can just be put in the fridge and that don't entail 30-45 minutes of scraping and cleaning up the mess after.

I would just go to Siam TV ( next to the Chinese Consulate) and buy the cheapest one they have. I did the same years ago. I have an Otto super blender "350W for Thailand only". It cost 200-300 baht about 12 years ago! I actually would like to get a better a better one but this thing just keeps going. I only do fruit smoothies though. All soft ripe fruit.
