How many thais migrate to farang countries vs the opposite?

Actually i wanted to say asian countries but was afraid it might be out of topic but it is all part of the discussion.

I was really curious about this cos we always have this group of farangs forever complaining that you know non farang are going to farang countries but somehow seem to forget or do not mind that there are many farang in non farang countries too like thailand.

Thailand could seem like hell especially to those poor thais but if they migrated to a farang country might not be too good although their standard of living would improve. Same thing with poor farangs in their own country.

Quite a number move for work, and obviously many females migrate with their foreign partners.

"Most migrants live in Europe and Asia
Europe and Asia combined host nearly two-thirds of all international migrants worldwide.
Europe remains the most popular destination region with 72 million international migrants in
2013, compared to 71 million in Asia. Since 1990, Northern America recorded the largest
gain in the absolute number of international migrants, adding 25 million, and experienced the
fastest growth in migrant stock by an average of 2.8 per cent per year."

The Thais that migrate to Canada generally don't do near as well from what I've seen in comparison to Asians from other countries. Their education and English is adequate for vegetable picking or low skilled work but that's about it. The Filipinos seem to adapt far easier, upgrade themselves and have a much more positive attitude.

Successful Thais from prosperous families in Thailand have little reason to immigrate. The ones I know that came here in their early 20s as domestic helpers seem to do pretty good. The ones that rode the coat tails of their husband "sponsor"....all directly correlated to her "employment" prior to coming here.

In answering how many Thais and Asians immigrate to Canada versus Canadians moving to Thailand? I would estimate for every 1 Canadian moving to Thailand, about 50,000 Asians are coming to Canada.

Very few in comparison to some other Asian countries. Thais make up about 1-2% of Asian Americans. Some will go for a few years to study, work, or live with their spouse, but most want to return to Thailand eventually. Very different than the attitudes of people from Philipines, Vietnam, or China, who usually make a permanent move.

I read the pdf file showed in the link and it seems that all the asian countries listed in there are middle eastern ones like the uae. Is australia and russia considered part of asia? I am surprised that are so many migrants to asian countries at 71 million but they are all middle eastern ones. Ok half of all international migrants went to live in 10 countries the majority being farang ones not sure if russia and australia are called asian countries but many migrants went to live in western asia like saudi arabia and the uae. Many of those migrants in western asia come from south asia.

It also mentioned about the growing economies in SEA countries but not a single SEA country was singled out.

10 countries hosted half of all international migrants but the US isn't a part of europe or asia though.

I read some where there is a hell of a lot in southern california, like 100,00,not sure, some one else may be better informed.

Yes, it is the biggest concentration of Thais outside of Thailand. They are a minuscule percentage of the population though, they aren't at all noticeable like farang are in Thailand. Even among Asians, there are 5.5 million Asians in California, the 100,000 Thais are a tiny minority.

Is there a reason for this?

More love for the country and the culture?

Standards of living higher? I know the philippines is worse off and vietnam is ranked lower than thailand but i don't think an average vietnamese lives a much worse off life compared to a thai. Correct me if i am wrong.

according to wikipedia outside of asia the USA has the most expat thais followed by Australia and the UK. Probably pretty close to the mark.

They tend to pay $150 a week to share dormlike facilities overseen by a Chinese landlord which contributes to the disparity in CBD and inner suburban rents. They speak very little English, very rarely interact with the local population and have short stays. It's almost like a jericho Sukhimvit.

I don`t know for sure so I can only make what I think is an educated guess based on what I have seen, but I would say that the numbers of Thais who have immigrated or now living in Western countries far out numbers the farangs who are living long term in Thailand.

I know in Britain there are many Thai communities spread all over the country, especially the major cities and even more so in London, Cheltenham, Liverpool and Glasgow and most are quite affluent.

There are also many Thais in the States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Israel and in Europe, especially Germany, Austria and even Iceland has a large Thai community.

Is there a significant number of such thais married to spouses from those countries and the majority would be female? I personally know a few people from my country who are male married to thai women who live long term in my country.

Yet since it's thai communities i think they would be entire families consisting of thais and not mixed marriages from another race or culture. Correct me if i am wrong.

I don't think they are as well entrenched as the chinese communities in those countries. Those countries you listed should have a chinatown that has existed for many years and with new chinese migrants that just recently migrated from china from the inner regions of china.
