Hi all,

My wife is in England with me on a family visitors visa and we will be applying for her settlement when she goes back to Thailand in a few weeks. Can she do her English test over here before she goes back? if so, where can she go to do it, we live close to London. Also, what level does she need to pass, A1 or B1?

Thanks in advance

Yes, she can take her test while in the UK as a visitor; but she cannot undertake a course of study for it, unless the course lasts 30 days or less and is not the main reason for her visit (see here).

The level required for the initial visa is A1 in speaking and listening; reading and writing are not required.

She can take the test at any college etc.; provided the actual provider of the test is on the approved list.

However, at the moment, for some reason, UKVI are not accepting TOIEC tests; so avoid them.

You may find UK settlement visa basics helpful.
