Popular Post Thai at Heart
The flavours are good, but at the end of the day, the lack of red meat makes it a limited cuisine. Also throw in the virtual complete lack of oven cooking, and its definitely not the best cuisine in the world. But hey, its just food.

Popular Post CharlesHH
What I see Thai eating is -white rice, denuded of most of its husk food value and is pure starch, -lots of noodles, starch again, -a fried egg with yellow included on top of a hunk of white rice, -some little chunk of mystery meat, -fish heads, -cooking in heavy oils and, gasp, cocoanut juice, -lots of frying and little baking and no poaching, and -non varying diet. Add, no vitamin pills, but taking fad pyramid scheme elixirs. Increasing taste for sugary drinks and candies. I guess the chicken protein keeps some going. Sure, the varied and healthily cooked Thai dishes are wonderful, but .................

As seen through your cultural imperialist lense, (?) there are many varieties and colors of whole grain rice available here, piles of raw field greens eaten (south Thai) and fruits aplenty. Why do you "gasp" at coconut "juice" or do you mean the "gatee" coco milk or cream that enriches curries and such? great stuff, ... and crispy edge fried eggs are yummy on top of pad grapau. If I had to choose only one nations cuisine it would probably be Mexico for the wide variety and regional styles. baneko
I knew you would get immediate smart a*se replies to this question. Thai at heat is right....very little red meat or oven cooking. Some is very nice mind you. Again very little dairy products either. My favorite is Indian food all the way. Greek is fine too. kurnell
It depends in whether you include isaan/Laos food. Som tam poo prarah, sticky rice and bbq chicken/fish or catfish larb/fermented sausage is my #1, closely followed by Lebanese food.
Popular Post timewilltell
Thai food cooked right I find delicious. However the average Thai dish eaten by most out of the little plastic bangs they have a penchant for carrying with them so often is pretty much junk food, though is just about edible. Then again any style of cooking prepared with good ingredients can be delicious. I often eat a little salmon with a salad. Add a few sesame seeds, a little chia, a little salad dressing and using fresh salad and a few mushrooms and the result is delicious. One issue with Thai food, apart from the fact that basic Thai food is barely much better for you than a Big Mac, is very poor nutritionally, consisting predominately of processed rice and fried inadequate morsels of protein which is why many Thais are stunted. Eaten daily it also destroys your palate because the dominant taste is chilli and eventually anything that does not have chilli in it tastes very bland. Which is maybe why Thais don't like western food much on the whole. Sent from my iPad using ThaiVisa app

HeijoshinCool
By Thai food, you mean fried chicken feet? Fish Poop Soup? Stir fried weeds harvested fresh, from the side of the road? Or those plasticky bean pods whose flavor they must subdue by dipping them in 1000-chili bean dip? Ohhhh, you mean Phad Thai, something most Thais don't eat too much of ...

Grateful farang
Thank you all for the replies. Even the sarcastic replies, very funny. But for me I like the taste of blending different things Like I have always hated celery! Even the smell of it makes me want to vomit but cooked in some thai dishes, celery adds an interesting and delicious flavour. I now experiment with celery in one of my curry dishes. Also drinks They have a delicious beverage: orange, honey and ginger. Wow! So delicious!

In Khon Kaen they scrape the intestines of a certain fish, and mix it up with chilies and God-knows-what, and dip those bean pod things into it. Nasty, nasty. The international perception of what constitutes the typical Thai meal is off by about 179 degrees. EDIT: To correct the spellchecker. To say Chinese Food is like saying European Food....Differences like from Italian to Swedish food or Portuguese to Russian. India is the same.
