They need to deal with the cost structures , the bloated staffing, the free tickets for staff, family and friends of staff etc. They won't do that because of the payback for the union's support. It will just limp on, dead in the water.. While true it is a drop in the bucket, it is an indication of the corporate culture. Tip of the iceberg kind of thing. So these are seats, that otherwise would be empty. Empty seats = no income!! SHe has never been left at a airport in 6 years . When I had to go back to Aus for doctors appointments every 3 months ,she put me on as her partner and I got the same airfares as her .Sometimes the air hostess would put you in business class if they new you were staff. I think that in Thailand you need to have a master degree of some sort or be a kind of general to get any important job. That is what Thailand suffer under. the eldest is always the wisest. Thai has much bigger problems than board members free tickets. The Chairman has experience in jet fighters and helicopters? What is the experience needed to run a major world airline company? Payment of fees is not the issue with this? I see it more as moving the deck chairs on the Titanic? or we need our man Flint on the inside? I understand the Chairman in most cases can be the figure head for a listed company, with decisions comming from the CEO. However with Thai company's there appears to have too much interference from board level. Don't know what their internal governance procedures are like? There are obviously far larger structural failings in the company which need to be addressed urgently. Just like the directors of many other companies worldwide in this recession who have continued to pay themselves big bonuses while the share holders go without dividends and the value of their shares plummet. Correct ... airport-taxes/charges, baggage-handling & meal/drink-costs, fuel-burn & ticketing-costs. And they block upgrades of fare-paying loyal-customers. Perhaps the balanced decision might be to permit them economy-seats, at a nominal 10% fee, like other employees ? And as for Board-level/senior-management dining-rooms ... but I won't start down that road. This airline desperately needs a leader with airline turnaround experience and board members should be CEO's or those with Finance or marketing experience. Privatization should also be considered. It will just limp on, dead in the water.. Exactly! The staff members (how many thousands of them around the world?) get their Free or at the very least, massive discounts even after they retire. Travel agents, here and around the world get "AD 75s" (Agent discounts of 75%) and then there is the "Interline Club" which is a cute little arrangement between carriers to provide either FOC (Free Of Charge) tickets to other Airline Staff and associated hangers-on. All of these perks add up to financial ruin. We can only hope the Military Junta has the intestinal fortitude to take the tough action that is needed to save the National Flag Carrier. Do that have that level of marketing savvy in them? Any creative juice to be seen anywhere in that organization? Of course the board members quit. No more first class tickets anywhere in the world.
