laolover88 Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 What is it about Uniforms here? My daughters have a different one for every day of the week. All government officials have one or more. Pink T shirts, Yellow T shirts and Red ones .All kinds of VIPs appear in white uniforms with a zillion badges,,. Security guards have an outfit .. One understands why Police and Soldiers have them, though why a white T shirt is a police uniform I have no idea. .Wife says it is all the fault of the French and English......And what is it with wearing or not wearing ties and hi-so anoraks? Thai dress fashion bewilders me.................but whoever started this.... why are Thais addicted to uniforms?
apetley Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 With the military having such a huge influence on society for decades I'd say a passion for uniforms was inevitable. 1
marko kok prong Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Right pack yer bag's,uniform's included, sorry i am bored and waiting for a movie to download, just wanted to see how it felt to join the 'pack yer bag's ' brigade, for a minute or so,actually it felt pretty good, but i don't think they would let me join them.
thailiketoo Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Actually it's Phibun and his cultural mandates in the 1930's. All the ladies ran around topless and the men wore skirts and this freaked out Plaek Phibunsongkhram so he wrote a bunch of new rules; hats and uniforms were a big thing ever since. Nothing to do with face all to do with tradition and trying to look like Westerners.

God damn it ,i missed out on the debauchery of ancient Rome, then the reniasance ,the swinging sixties, now this.gutted does not even come close to describing how i feel.
daoyai Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Though contemporary uniforms are mostly western design their widespread use is reflective of Asian love of conformity.
