We're having our "Wan Kru" today at my new very tiny school and I thought about the educational system, failures, foreigners working here and I came to the conclusion that not all is as bad in Thailand's schools, as some people might think

My grade one kids, who'd just started to learn English in middle of May, are getting better and better in speaking, reading and writing in English. They already know the differences between living and non-living things, as well

Most even master simple additions and subtractions, while the Thai math teacher's still at numbers from one to seven. And they learn Thai and English at the same time.

I don't know if most people here understand when I say that i love them as my own kids. They don’t just need education; they also need protection and safety.

They need somebody they can trust. Glad that I can be the one.

Rather harsh, but an element of truth nonetheless.

When I first started teaching a long, long time ago, during indoctrination we were told/reminded that most of the students (somewhat older than in the first grade) did not need another friend, they needed someone who provided order, routine and helped them develop work habits that would enable them to benefit from the time they spent in school ... along with the knowledge that you were paid to help them gain while in your charge.

To the extent that you are responsible for them during the school day, yes. But unless they come from exceptional circumstances, they are protected and kept safe by their families and you need to recognize that your role in their lives has definite limits. If any child appears to need additional protection, you should seek the assistance of someone qualified to deal with child welfare and be careful about interfering in things you may not fully understand.

What exactly is the point of your post? Is it that "not all thai schools are "bad"? I am not sure what you are getting at.....????

Hmmmm...where are the photos of the male students?? All the pics are of girls? Is it an all female school?

I'm not implying anything untoward - but if I noticed it maybe others will too.

I'm with Suradit on this; while teaching in modern times is a greater challenge than ever, it can still be done with empathy, patience and understanding. But getting all squishy about it is exceeding your remit in my opinion, and could lead to unforeseen consequences.

If you like getting your ass torn to shreds, there's no better way than posting on TV.

Forget the naysayers Sirchai....You seem to be doing a great job with your students. Anyone thinking you can walk into a Thai classroom and deal with those kids like you would Western kids, is sadly deluded....

It's fairly obvious that this topic is not going to go in a positive direction, which seems to be the intent of the OP.

It's nice that someone is finding some job satisfaction and a position that 'clicks' with both the students and the teacher. It's equally sad that some people can't see that.
