While your rather long-winded post might apply to some expats here in Thailand, I think it depends a lot on location. Pattaya ppears to me to have the lowest quality of expat in the entire country. Next comes Phuket, and then Samui. I think there are a lot of regional areas where the quality of expat is much higher and they're not necessarily attracted to a certain scene. I've met some pretty high caliber guys here so general rules of thumb might apply to some, but I don't think it applies to the majority. -

The Most Rev Dr Hosam Naoum, Archbishop of Jerusalem, delivered a powerful address at the Church of England’s General Synod, calling attention to the dire circumstances in Gaza. Describing the food distribution systems for two million Palestinians as “horrifying,” he likened them to the dystopian "Hunger Games" series. His speech criticised the limited food access, with only three sites open for an hour daily, amidst ongoing conflicts. He urged the international community to recognise a Palestinian state and called for the end of occupation and settler violence in the West Bank. Drawing attention to the challenges Christians face in the Holy Land, Archbishop Hosam highlighted the struggles amid ethnic cleansing and economic pressures. He advocated for the rebuilding of Gaza, a permanent ceasefire, and the release of hostages held by Hamas, following the deadly conflict initiated on 7 October 2023. As the fallout from the Israel-Hamas war continues, with significant casualties reported, Archbishop Hosam emphasised that the church must speak out against injustice. He noted that the church is not political but must stand firm in its Christian mission during these turbulent times. Born in Haifa and raised in Galilee, Archbishop Hosam became the 15th Anglican Bishop in Jerusalem in 2021. His responsibilities extend across five regions: Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Israel, serving 28 congregations and overseeing numerous institutions like hospitals and schools. This poignant address comes amid a changing leadership landscape within the Church of England, following the resignation of the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, last year. The future leadership choices stand poised to influence the church’s role in addressing global conflicts and humanitarian issues. Overall, Archbishop Hosam’s appeal seeks to amplify the call for peace and justice in the Holy Land, urging a collective response to address the humanitarian needs in Gaza and beyond.
