Southern security structure adjusted to solve decade-long violence

BANGKOK, 1 July 2014 (NNT) - A meeting of security agencies responsible for southern solutions has acknowledged the planned change to the structure of efforts to address the violence in the region, with a focus on work integration of all sides and maintenance of peace talks with the BRN separatists.

Princess Chulabhorn opens DMS Conference 2014

BANGKOK, 1July 2014 (NNT) - Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn yesterday (June 30) presided over the opening ceremony of the 2014 Department of Medical Sciences Conference (DMSC) at the Miracle Grand Hotel in Bangkok.

The conference, which is the 22nd of its kind, is organized during June 30-July 2, by the Department of Medical Sciences to demonstrate Thailand’s confidence in the development of medical sciences and related knowledge in the country. Held under the theme ‘Medical Sciences: Prompt & Proud’, this year’s conference is being attended by more than 1,000 Thai and foreign experts in the field.

At the opening ceremony, Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn also presented the DMSC Awards 2014 to outstanding medical scientists, both Thai and foreign. The awards are divided into three categories, namely research and development, public health laboratory development and services and the production of medical science textbooks. The 3-day conference also features an exhibition of more than 150 researches and innovations in the field of medical sciences that have been conducted to promote the health of Thai people.

The conference includes key-note speeches by well-known medical scientists in Thailand and from foreign countries who will transfer their knowledge and experiences to the participants on such topics as infectious diseases, toxic chemicals, food contaminants and local health risks that have impacts on the regional and global scales.

Diesel excise tax poised to be raised by 1-3 baht

BANGKOK, 1 July 2014 (NNT) - The Excise Department remains confident that the diesel excise tax will be increased by 1 to 3 baht as the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has made it clear that it will not cling to the populist policy like the previous government.

Round of 16 remaining World Cup matches at 11:00pm to be aired on Channel 11

BANGKOK, 1 July 2014 (NNT) - The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has affirmed that RS International Plc., the broadcast rights holder for the FIFA World Cup, must abide by the rules by televising all the matches on free TV channels.

Office of Judiciary provides free bus services

BANGKOK: -- The Office of Judiciary will provide free bus rides for its officials and people who contact the court, starting Thursday.

The so-called OJ Miniubus Line will run from 7 am to five pm every 15 minutes.

The buses will run in a circular route from the Criminal Court and Office of the Judiciary on Soi Lard Prao 15 to the MRT Lard Prao station, the Institute for Judiciary Official Development, the North Bangkok District Court, the Appeals Court Region 7, the Appeals Couirt, the Civil Court, the Central Tax Court and the Canteen of the Judiciary Office and back to the Criminal Court.

Prison shakedown conducted in Lampang Correctional center for drug rehabilitation

LAMPANG, 1 July 2014 (NNT) - Military and police officers have combined their forces to conduct a raid at the Lampang Corrections Center for Drug Rehabilitation to search for narcotics and a cell phone that showed threatening text messages to kill a prison guard.


The facility is located at the Pong Yang Kok Subdistrict, Hang Chat District, Lampang Province. More than 200 police officers and soldiers were deployed to raid the corrections centere, looking for narcotics, cell phones, and other illicit items. Authorities have done a thorough search of the prison by inspecting the jail cells, inmates’ lockers, and the bedrooms.

Knives, folding knives, and many illegal items including pornographic magazines were also found during the raid. However, authorities were unable to find that one particular cell phone that contained threatening SMS messages to kill a prison guard.

Around 1,400 male inmates from 17 different provinces have been sent to this prison on drug-related cases.

Chief of Thai Defense Forces hails success in visiting India

BANGKOK, July 1 - The Chief of Thailand's Defense Forces and Deputy Chief of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), Gen Thanasak Patimapragorn expressed satisfaction with his official visit to India, affirming progress on bilateral relations and India's excitement in participating in next year's Cobra Gold 2015 exercise.

Gen Thanasak officially visited India June 28-30 as a guest of the state, during which he met with his Indian counterpart, and Army Chief Gen Blkram Singh for talks on bilateral military relations and progress on joint exercises, particularly the Cobra Gold 2015 exercise.

The Thai Defense Forces Chief also met with India's Minister of Finance and Defense, Shri Arun Jaitley for talks on mutual interest and cooperation.

Gen Thanasak said India has shown great understanding regarding the current Thai political situation, saying that India would give Thailand full support to help bring back peace and stability to the Thai kingdom.

Besides, the NCPO deputy chief said relations on trade, investments, and tourism would remain strong as before, adding that he has held talks with the Indian side on building a route linking India with Thailand through Myanmar, which should be finalised within 2016. (MCOT online news)

More passengers, more flights leads AoT to expand Thai airport capacity

BANGKOK, July 1 -- On its 35th anniversary today, Airports of Thailand (AoT), operator of the country's six largest airports reported that from October 2013 to May this year its served 60,342,046 passengers, a 4.2 per cent rise, and 419,363 flights, a 13.2 per cent year-on-year increase.
