I got a new passport in March and I looked at my Thai drivers licence today and realised it has the old PP number on it.

Do I need to change the licences?

Posted

No. The PP number is never scrutinized. When you get new licenses, you give them your new passport.

Even with Bank Accounts, it is the same. They only want to see the new pp for transactions that require it.

I saw a very recent post that your car/bike insurance might become invalid without the new passport number on the licence?

I wouldn't believe that for a nano second.

' Bill ' when you renew your licenses they change it then, just carry a copy of your passport which will have a stamp from immigration when you visit them next they will put details of your old passport etc.

Don't know about what other provinces do but in Sukhothai they do not put passport numbers on renewal of driving licences, my has a Thai ID number instead.

I recently got a new passport and also wanted a international permit as I was going to hire a car in the UK. I had to change the Thai car license to my new passport for the IP but he said up to me on my bike license .. can do now or on renewal.

OK. Thanks for that. I will be going up that way at the end of the year to tax the bike so I will ask then if I remember.

For the benefit of others If you have a 5 year full Thai licence for a car the UK hire companys ( the main ones anyhow) they don't ask for IDP.

Discussed many times, you can drive on a 5 year Thai in the UK up to 1 year.

That's true .. I just got one because I'm a UK citizen without a UK license and wanted to be 100% sure that they would take it.

Well this is Thailand as always is said, so when you renew anything here, if it is important, check that everything is correct before you leave the place, not that hard to do.

I asked why my passport number was not on my licences before I left the Sukothai DLT they said not do that now, bye bye. smile.png

That's a fair call, best safe than sorry I guess.

I don't think you will be able to use your Thai bike licence in UK from memory, maybe you have already checked that out, goodluck with your trip to UK.

It was no problem for car license. Dunno about bike license.

I no longer hold a UK license and I'm not resident in the UK.

If I was resident and a UK license holder then NO I couldn't.
