I am currently staying in Thailand for my first year based on extension of stay due to marriage.

For my 2nd year extension of stay, as per my understanding, 400k must be on my account for 3 months (for the 1st time, it was 2 months).

Starting from which date do I need the 400k on my account based on:

- 1st Extension applied on 7th November 2013

- Extension to stay permitted on December 16th 2013 for staying until 25th November 2014

Must the 400k be in the account for 3 months:

a) prior application of extension which can be done max 30 days prior expiry which would mean earliest by 26th of October minus 3 months = 24th of July (to be safe)?

OR

B) prior expiry of extension of stay, which means 25th of November minus 3 months - 24th of August?

Just want to make sure that the money is on time prepared.

Tks in advance for anybody's help.

Cheers

Question ?

When do you think you are going to apply for that extension ??

If the extensions expires Nov 25th, you can apply 1 month before, so that would make it approx 25th Oct.

If you are going to apply (approx) 25th Oct, you should have the money in place around July 27th 2014 (which is 3 months before), so if you are going to apply later then so every day you apply later (approx 25 oct) you can season the money 1 day later thumbsup.gif

But better be on the safe side and do it early

Tks MJCM for your quick reply!

What is the latest date I can apply for it? I thought I must do it the earliest possible date which means 30days prior expiry since it always takes time on their side of several weeks. Or can I apply eg on 24.11. Even though my extension would expire on 25th and I do not have a new one yet? Would they just give me an extra month starting from 25.11. Until the new extension is approved?

I personally would say the latest about 1 week in advance. The reason being:

Suppose they ask you for some (additional) documents and you can't get them on short notice, you will lose the deadline. (you would be fckedu)

I would never ever leave it to the last day, but maybe that is only me.

They will not give you an extra month, your extension of stay expires on Nov 25th 2014 and even when you apply on Nov 24th 2014 (and the approval comes back Dec 24th) your new extension will only be valid until Nov 25th 2015.

Trust me on this one, I tried to move my own date (because it conflicted with Holiday Plans, but they couldn't change it, so I just left without a Re-Entry Permit (thus voiding my Extension) and applied back in Europe for a new Non-O)

Tks for yr explanations!

Yes, surely I would not leave it to the last day. That's why we did it last time around 30 days prior expiry of my multiple entry visa. I had to go back 4 times because the nice lady officer always "forgot" each time to mention some necessary requirements...

Which Immigration Office are you applying, mine is Jomtien, my friend did it there last month and he left (with his 30 day probation biggrin.png ) after 20-30 minutes, so it was rather quick and painless.

I was facing the same problem before dates colliding with my holiday plans. I want there on 7th of November and was told to come back by 25.12. But I already booked flights for 21.12. spending X-Mas at home. Luckily the extension arrived before my flight...

My previous ME-visa needed me to enter before Sep 18th, I entered on August 28th but could only apply earliest 2 months later which was the 30days prior the 90 days -counting from August 28th- I could stay with my ME.

I could not leave Thailand after the 18.9. Until I got my extension in December. Otherwise I had to apply for a new visa abroad and for the extension everything would start again from the beginning.

As you said, the 25.11. Will now always be my permitted to stay date forever - unless I can't manage due to some colliding traveling plans and needing to start from scratch-, regardless whether I apply 30, 20, or 10 days prior expiry of extension.

Whoever wants to get an extension of stay, I suggest to plan ahead wisely. If somebody is going abroad around X-Mas frequently a permitted to stay date later than Middle of November is not convenient.

My immigration office is Kantang and they need to send the application to the superior Immigration Office in Songkla to get approval...

Agreeed, and when you are going abroad frequently in Summer then applying in May, June, July, August is also not very convenient.

So that would only leave January, February, March and Oct to apply for an extension of stay (Marriage) thumbsup.gif

With the extra month, I did not mean an extra month on top oft extension.

I meant, they allow you to stay without any present valid visa / extension of stay until the new one arrives.

eg in my case before:

- ME visa must enter latest date 18.9.

- I entered 28.8. and could stay until 25.11.

- I applied on 7.11. For extension to stay due to marriage -at that time I thought the later I do it the later the date of my extension will be- giving me 18 days in case papers are not in order

- on 7.11. I got a stamp in my passport to come back by 25.12. As the application is under consideration

- I was worried that after 25.11. I was without any permit to stay in Thailand but the immigration officer said "no problem, u can stay until the result of extension is known" which freaked me out as it could be a big problem if I do not have anything black on white. But she said -as far as I remember- I could not leave Thailand between the application of extension until I get it back. I could leave but then the whole application would be void and if I wanted to leave after 25.11. I would have to come back to immigration to apply for ... (I forgot) in order to be allowed to leave since my ME 90 days expired on 25.11.

- on 16.12 I received my extension, the gap between 25.11. And 16.12. I called it "free" since during that period, I was on no visa / extension or anything else

To sum it up:

I will apply as early as possible for my 2nd extension in order to be covered by the 1st extension until the approval of the 2nd extension arrives.

Otherwise, if I want to travel / must travel after the 1. Extension expired and before getting the 2. Extension, it is very troublesome...and I don't like the feeling not being free to decide when to travel abroad...

Understood sorry for misunderstanding wink.png

On my 2nd extension (applied in June, and expiry in July) on the date they stamped (to come back) in my passport we arrived at immigration.

"Approval not come yet", was the reply, my reply "but tmrw I will be on overstay", she "no worry come back 1 week"

1 week passed, we went again to Immigration, "No Sorry no come back Bangkok yet, come back one more week".

Next week, I just send the wife and you guessed it, NO APPROVAL YET (come back next week)

In the end, it took 2 months (from applying) for the approval to arrive (arrived August, with expiry July next year)

For an extension of stay based upon marriage the money only has to be in the bank for 60 days for every extension (except for Phuket).

The money has to be in the bank for 60 days on the date you apply.

You can apply up to 30 days early.

There is no need to worry about the extension stamp not being done on or before the report back date on the under consideration stamp. The report back date is not a permit to stay date.. The under consideration stamp is valid for stay until your extension is either approved or denied.

I know there was a document on here proving that Immigration offices have different requirements and it's not always 2 Months.

It states: (and please remember that the OP is asking about the 2nd Year Extension)

"If having Funds deposited with a Bank in Thailand (saving/fixed account)"

Must have a balance of no less then 400k remaining in the bank account for the past 3 months from the date of submission.

(For the first year only, a deposit account must be submitted and must have said account of balance in the account for no less then 2 months)

Edit 1: I forgot to mention that this doc is from Pattaya / Jomtien Immigration.

I wonder how many years old that list is.

Pattaya uses the 60 day rule now as far as I know.. I think Phuket is the only one that does 90 days after first extension.

From police order 777/2551

(6) In the case of marriage to a Thai woman, the alien husband must earn an average annual income of no less than Baht 40,000 per month or must have no less than Baht 400,000 in a bank account in Thailand for the past two months to cover expenses for one year.

The post is from last year, so only a year old.

My friend is going to pick up his extension on the 18th (Pattaya/Jomtien), and I will let him ask the Immigration Officer.

Yeah, I know that the (offical) rule is 2 months, but as we all know Immigration Officials like to make their own rules (sometimes).

Posted

It could still be old. It is certainly wrong .Before the last police order change it was 90 days. I think who ever made the list put in the retirement requirements instead of marriage by mistake.

Immigration can ask for addition documents and proof. But they should not be allowed to change the police order requirements.

Agree completely, but will wait till my friend has spoken to immigration about this when he picks up his years stay.

But better be safe (and only when you can afford it) put the money in Deposit account, this way you also get some interest, and this is also accepted by Immigration

My friend just spoke to the Woman in charge of Desk 5 (Family) at Jomtien Immigration while picking up his Extension of Stay (Marriage) and she confirmed that you need to have 400k in your account for a min. of 2 Months.
