Filippina's baby was born in Thailand now 5 she wants to book him into a local school .

Father from USA disappeared and left them both in Thailand, she survives doing internet website work at home (no work permit)

she has been border running for 5 years ...

question if her child is enrolled at a thai school I am told she can get a student visa is this correct and if so how and what is required ?

Obviously she doesn't have money but I am willing to assist her however I can .

If the child is enrolled in a school, the child can get an ED-visa with paperwork from the school.

The mother herself can be a dependent of the child, but must show 500,000 baht in a bank account in Thailand to do that.

Can't she sue for child support?

ouch 500,000 that's going to be difficult does that need to stay there or just "show" if show I maybe able to help .

the guy is US military she found out weeks before getting married in Thailand that he had not only a wife and 4 kids in Japan but also a Thai wife and 2 kids here. she went to the USA embassy in BKK but being from Philippines pretty much told her to forget it ...

There must be a way to sue the bastard.

I wish his name is on the birth certificate as the father and he signed it , he does send her $100 every now and then but its hardly child support she really cannot afford to send him to school she survives only on what she can earn working on the web site which is enough to live on modestly. with all the new visa drama she is scared next visa she wont be able to return and he little bloke is left here on his own, guess with me she would have to return to Philippines .

The child is Thai (by birth he has a Thai birth certificate ) so he would have to get a visa for Philippines I guess its a bit of a mess and stressing her out no end . father don't give a shit when asked to help he said go back and live in the province in Philippines her reason for not wanting to return is her family was totally wiped out in typhoon Haiyan they were never seen nor heard from again house and family is simply gone from the planet.

I have no relationship with her but she is good people I babysit her little bloke a lot and he has become like a son to me, so I want to help but it hasn't been a kind year to me either so cash is tight . My idea was to enroll him in the cheapest school I can find even if he doesn't attend luckily one of her friends also from Philippines is a primary school teacher and she is home tutoring him 3 days a week as a temporary solution until we can get him into a proper school so he can mix with other kids his age . Right now I need a solution till maybe end of the year and hope things pan out .

The child won't be Thai unfortunately unless one of the parents was a citizen or both were Permanent residents of Thailand at the time of birth. The birth certificate will have the equivalent of 'not eligible for Thai citizenship' under the nationality column of the birth certificate. So the child will be philippino and if the dad steps up, hopefully he could wangle US citizenship.

unfortunately dad don't give a toss hasn't seen the child since birth ,

hasn't even sent a xmas or birthday card and is here once or twice a month "on holiday" so can forget that bastard ... does that mean then my school idea wont fly ? thanks for the info until now we believe him to be a thai citizen pretty much ...opppps

I would contact the Judge Advocate General office to see if the military can do anything for her.

The school idea will fly partly. The daughter does not need to have any money, just to be enrolled in school. But the mother can only get an extension with 500,000 in the bank.

Does the child have a Philippine passport? That will be needed to get the ED visa and then the extension.

The 500k baht has to be a Thai bank account in her name for 30 days for the first extension and 90 days after that. Once the child has an extension of stay she would need to go out for a non-o visa to apply for the extension.

ok thank I can put up half that and probably borrow the rest from a mate , just cannot keep it in there perpetually ....

no he doesn't but I can arrange that easily I have strong well placed connections in Philippines to get that .

Hmmm the rest a bit tricky but I understand so I am looking at Bht500k in an account for at least 120 days (that hurts but not impossible I think ) leaving to get a non immigrant ) shouldn't be a biggy maybe Laos ....

Thanks for the advice .

If he sends money, you will have his name and bank details, use this to contact the military.

yes she has kept a file on every cent he has sent every western union , photos of them being engaged although the ring (surprised) turned out to be a Russian diamond and pretty much worthless. The US embassy here said she would have to go back to Philippines and file .... they are heare to assist USA citizens and Thai's not philippinos and were very off handed to be honest, really had zero interest .... she cannot do the work she is doing here from Philippines so that would mean going up the income she has on a maybe .

Sullo, you are a good guy and she is lucky to have you. Hope everything works out for her. The father is an a-hole!!

she is a decent girl made the wrong decision is all and would give her life for her little boy , he is a terrific kid and needs a father figure not many blokes could turn their back on that we have bonded very strongly but I have family in Philippines I cannot turn my back on so question of any relationship isn't remotely possible if I were a single guy and 20 years younger it would be a different story , right now doing what I can there are people worse off but this is my situation right in my face and all was fine until the visa crack down which I fully understand and support really just some innocent folks that are causing no problems are going to be caught up in the net and I tried to hire Thais to do the work she is doing they just cannot do it , been through 4 of them , this girls English is perfect so its a no brainer .

You have a good hart but:

What if she gets deported because she is working. How is she going to pay you back and how do you pay your friend?

What are you going to do next time when she needs the money in the bank again?

yes problems can arise , her work is done in evening at home on a computer just uploading onto a web site , it would be a million to one shot for her to be accused of working really even though I guess technically she is ..... I am a half of my glass is full kinda guy and do everything as legally as possible and hope for the best. All the Ifs that can come up are a worry cross those bridges if and when we get to them , I could also have a heart attack tomorrow and that will leave them in the shit as well but I have them covered for Bht 1 million insurance in that case ... she will know what to do .

You might need to apply for the passport here instead of in the PI.

If she doesn't follow visa stuff, you might want to update her on what's going on now. Her situation is an almost textbook case of who is being targeted. Plan B comes to mind.

As someone mentioned above, I'd also suggest that she contact the military re the absent father.

Best of luck to her and her child.
