Ok I have been here for quite a few years, initially on Non Imm "O" Visa's followed by many "back to back" Triple Entry Tourist Visa's, of which I have just used my 2nd entry. The visa's were available so I used them, they fitted in with my lifestyle.

However, I have taken on-board the advice being given out, to get the correct Visa, so.........got married today! Letter from Consulate and 45 mins today in Amphur, job done. I am now married, which was planned anyway as I have a kid arriving next month!

Ok, what are my options now? I don't really want to be messing around with Visa runs and the like next month, when the baby arrives.

Do I have to do a trip back to UK? Can I get a Non Imm "O" based on marriage here/region? Is there any benefit putting 400k in the bank here?

My original plan was to stay until December (I have a flight booked) when my 3rd entry after extensions would have expired and got the Non "O" based on either marriage or having a kid,  but the latest developments have meant this is probably no longer possible.

I don't want to take the chance of not being allowed back into the country and missing my first child's birth!

If you put 400k baht in the bank here you can apply for an extension of stay based upon marriage at immigration. Then just make 90 day reports to immigration.

If you leave near Bangkok you could do a change of visa status from you tourist visa entry to a 90 day non immigrant visa entry and then apply for the extension about 60 days after that.

If you get a multiple entry non-o you have to leave every 90 days.

Great advice as always Ubonjoe.

Two questions...

1. Does the 400k have to be in the bank for 3 months? If so, my visa will (due to the new rules regarding "back to back") possibly have forced me to leave already.

2. A change of visa status is not possible at CM?

3. I can get a multiple entry non "O' here in CM? Leaving every 90 days? When you say leave, just a quick out/in in Mae Sai would be sufficient? So, this is effectively the same visa I had years ago when Hull, UK was ok giving them out to single individuals?

Appreciated.

You should be able to extend 60 days on basis of marriage alone (but will have to appear with proof and spouse).  That should take care of the birth period.  Then you can do the change of status.  You can not obtain a multi entry O visa inside Thailand (Savannakhet is the closest and one of the last locations providing).  For change of entry (90 day non immigrant) the money does not have to be seasoned but for extension would require 2 months.

Hi,

How many tourist visa do you have in your passport?
I am going down a marriage road soon can you give me any advice?

In this passport which was new last year...

2 x triple entry tourist visa's, the first one extended by 30 days on each entry. This triple entry extended the first by 30 days and now on the 2nd entry.

Marriage advice? Not really sure what advice you are after? The only thing I can say is that the process is very easy to do (in fact, amazed how easy), neither of us married or had kids before, which may help?

For the change of visa status it just has to be in the bank. When you do the extension it only has to be in the bank for 2 months.

Only Bangkok can do a change of visa status for an extension based upon marriage and it will require 2 trips there to get it. Since you are in CM I suggest you make a trip to Vientiane for a single entry non-o.

You cannot get a visa at any immigration office unless it is based upon qualifying for an extension of stay of some kind and it will only be a 90 entry you get.

If you want a multiple entry non-o you can go to Savannakhet and get one.

Can someone confirm that I can definitely get a 60 day extension of stay at CM Imm based on marriage? (I still have a remaining entry on my triple entry tourist visa but worried about problems activating it after Aug 12th)

What documentation do I need to get the 60 day extension at CM Imm based on marriage?

Will probably go back to the UK to apply for a Non "O" multi-entry after that, unless anyone has any other ideas? Not ideal as I will be leaving the wife and 2 month old baby alone.

Really annoying as my flight was booked for December (which was based on using all of my triple entry tourist visa), now that needs to be changed.....really don't need this with a baby arriving in a few weeks.

There are no reports of people having problems activating further entries of multi-entry visa.

So even though I have had 4 triple entry tourist visa's all back to back, all with 30 day extensions and all with in/out visa runs?

The issue I have is I could extend the current (number two entry) for 30 days BUT what then happens if I go to activate the 3rd and final entry and they say no? I guess I can not then go back to CM Imm and ask for another 60 days extension based on marriage/kid after already having a 30 day extension?

I don't see a reason why you would be refused entry, as you have a valid visa.

You can carry marriage/child papers just in case you need or want to get another visa, suggest Savannakhet for non-imm O, single or multi.

I think you can still get 60 days extension for "visiting family" after the 30 days one, but is worth to do that just on the last entry, otherwise the visa "entry before" may expire. Others will correct me if I'm wrong.

You should use your 3rd entry of your visa before getting the 60 day extension. The crackdown is for visa exempt entries not visa entries.

You can go to Mae Sai and do it without a problem.

You can certainly get the 60 extension at CM immigration.
