Rice probe snares two top officials

Department of inactive posts.

Hang on! Those posts prevent the English from invading Wales

1_34_6l.jpg

Actually the reason there's no Welsh flag on the Union Flag is because the English annexed it centuries ago. Lovely country and people though and a great place for the English to keep their sheep an water. biggrin.png

Those aren't inactive posts as they form part of the composition of the picture by leading the eye into it. Now if they stood those that have been moved to inactive posts in the picture to replace those posts we can see then they would at least serve a purpose.

The department of inactive posts must be huge. I wonder if anyone who has been sent to an inactive post has actually faced proper disciplinary action such as being charged, tried & penalised accordingly including loss of all benefits which were associated with the job.

That would require loss of face and the "Lost Face Dept" is overworked at the present time.

Next and ultimate step is the "Fled the Scene Dept".

How about a Temple watch.........Starting at Surat Thani. Let no more ex govt crooks take up the Monkhood until they have faced the court and returned everything that they have thieved whilst in power. Stop all wanted crims from fleeing to the nearest temple to avoid criminal charges!

Sounds a bit of a witch hunt? 'According to the source, Mr Surasak's transfer is believed to be the result of his "inability" to clearly answer questions related to the Yingluck Shinawatra administration policy on government-to-government rice sales.' The NCPO wants answers, but the answers that will prevent any resurface of a political foe?

It would seem, though, that the 'Loss of Job' department is hardly being used.

Remember these Government jobs do not attract a high salary. Yes I know we wonder why they all drive around in Mercs, but they get their real money from the corrupt shinanigans they are all involved in. Going inactive means 'your basic salary only' which will not be enough to keep the Merc running that's for sure. No power, no entourage, no perks, total loss of face with family, friends and peer group. Jail would be good but they can utilise their skills garnered in corruption again. At least it is a move in the right direction.

What job does attract a high salary Jim?

We know there are billions, not millions, involved between these people. Jail is THE ONLY ending for such corruption to be cut at the neck. The money comes from the tax payer and investitures/investments which are SUPPOSED to benefit the Thai people. 30% is paid into private bank accounts to get the business, any business.

With regards to loss of face, there is always somebody next in line to take the risk... or even fly the risk. That is the inherent problem, because no fear of punishment is instilled. Until people are stripped of every asset they have, instead of being "moved on", then there is NO DETERRENT. Power and money is not the proponent of democracy; dignified principles and aims for all is.

Concerning garnering their skills for re-utilising their skills... I'd sooner they were made poor, and left completely homeless, jobless and bank accountless..... then sent to prison, as that would not permit such power amongst peer prisoners, would it not?

They raped the system.... they should be raped of all they have. That would be the IDEAL example.

(and it applies elsewhere, also! West included)

However, receiving what is perceived as a low salary.. raises questions about us Westerners' perceptions. 80,000 Baht is a huge, huge princely salary in Thailand. We perceive it as little, purely because we come from much greatly advanced backgrounds, where: wires are under the roads (which are perfectly smooth), electricity is never cut off, water is relatively pure, and there's no sh!t selling sh!t on the pavements. People who use bikes wear helmets, the police are highly incorrupt in a relative sense, and health care is of the essence and etc.

What evolved in the past in all of our "FARANGIAN" countries was that old and ancient rules/adage/BS (whatever one wants to call it) were eliminated by strong implementation of laws, and catching out corruption. it's very easy to say Western services are corrupt.. but I'd bet 99% are clean (I'm referring to Britain now... forget the likes of Eastern European countries).

I argue for taking away any salary from them, and let them find what's it's really like on the street, and to get off it, to earn money in an honest way. Most of them were, historically (in a family way), given life on a plate and placed into positions to commit theft anyway. Such as the latter certainly applies to hers truly YL.

Thoughts?

AMEN. I could not agree with you more.

Reinforce the "good" behavior. And punish the "bad." I remember when I 1st started driving a car (barely lol), I was caught speeding. I was given a fine that was exorbitant... a/b a weeks salary.... After that I would not go more than 5mph over the legal speed limit, b/c that was overlooked by the police. Research has shown how negative/positive reinforcement allows an individual to choose change... unless they want to continue getting the results of said behavior.

I fear this country is full of co-dependent individuals and enablers which will make any substantial change far reaching.

Thanks for your post.

With any luck, all of the folks who are in this in-active collection, will be charged as a group, convicted and sentenced to long terms of

planting and harvesting rice. Good exercise for the back.

Hopefully. If not then the message is:

- Get a govt. job at a fixed salary

- Steal

- If not caught steal more and more and more

- If caught go back to govt. job at a fixed salary.

I think they just wanted explanations why he said there was no rice missing and when the army checked there was rice missing and different qualities.

Maybe they also wanted to know why checks were done to see rice was stored.

But come Chris, everyone even Western organisations told Thailand this was a bad idea. They ignored it said there were no losses. Then when someone came out that there were losses she got bullied and threatened with lawsuits.

Now when things are checked there is rice missing.. lots of differences in quality (bad quality registered as good quality) rotting rice. while not to long ago Yingluck and her minions said all was good no rice missing no rotting rice.

She chaired it she is responsible.. she has been told by independent organisations it was a bad idea.. there were reports of bad storage.. reports of missing rice.. and nothing was done. That is so much incompetence its criminal. Yes criminal if you look at the losses. This is taxpayers money.. not that Isarn farmers worry about that they dont pay a dime in taxes. But the middle class is paying through the nose for this.

Personally I always wonder why people who don't pay into the system should have a vote that allows them to tell how others money is spend. Can you imagine if people on the dole would have a majority and made rises in welfare while the normal guy had to pay for it was a minority and could not stop it and more and more of his money got stolen. (land taxes should be introduced so the real rich get to pay too not just the middle class)

What a crazy situation. Surely they are guilty of something but obviously not enough to warrant legal proceedings.

Perhaps the ministry of inactive posts is there for the stupid and intellectually challenged.

The main problem I see is that there are so many persons being replaced then how can the junta be sure that they are not replacing incompetence/corruption with incompetence/corruption plus? Or simply replace and hope?

I think the first thing is to remove them from their position so they can do no further harm.

Once the inspections are over and they sift through all the figures and facts, they will be pulling people for deep questioning.

If these people can't provide satisfactory answers, they will likely be prosecuted and have all their assets seized.

The courts recently handed down a 20 year prison sentence for rice fraud and he lost all his assets also. So expect this to be replicated across the board.

This is Thailand's chance to send a huge message out that if you are corrupt, you play with fire, and they should take that chance with both hands.

I think ,wishful thinking on your part, this is Thailand and they continue to do things in a complete irrational way, lets hope your right thought !

Agree 100% Rob, it was a dopey program, which is showing a lack of checks and balances along the way.

My point of a witch hunt was for these two Director Generals. Not too much was reported on why they got the chop? And two women were put in their place? One of these women sounded as though she had it in for one of the DG. Anyone with any or past alliance to Ms Y will get the chop. That's the way of the junta for the moment.

Its this cleaning out process that is the witch hunt. What seems to be the underling question in force 'the value of elections and being totally dismissive of politicians' or politicians and the people that worked for them, that one looses the ability to question and debate.

I believe that “the people” can make appropriate decisions, but before they get that opportunity there is a purge which intends to cut out as much opposition in shoring up the elite way of thinking.

Just be careful Rob the dole bludger today maybe your prime minister tomorrow!

I don't know what they charge a politician for being totally stupid?

I have worked with getting people back into work; these were people straight out of goal or in the criminal justice system. There is a skill in having success in this work, and many of the people working in this area I met, to help the unemployed lacked that skill set or relied on the Government to pay bonuses the longer they kept them in skill courses. Tried one year for funding for our service, but as we did not fit the criteria for the Government agency, but did the same job, we didn't get a look in. Sometimes it the people running these courses and job agencies that need a boot up the backside. On the figures I used from the government, we could have achieved about $500K. Big money in trying to help the unemployed? Many people I came across wanted to work, but just didn't have a skill set or know how to present for an interview.

Well beeing replaced very often in western countries have the same effect:these guys get another job where nobody focus on to! but better paid!

Thailand has no penalty on anything like corruption or misappropriation or breaking of laws ! Penaltiy must hurt those people for long time. The best way by money to pay back from whom they robbed it (uuuuups its again the government ) but on behind of that : its robbed from all the people in Thailand working and paying their tax and duties!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris the dole bludger comment was more as a example of having people who don't pay into the system decide what to get out of it. While those who do pay into it are a minority and see their payments used for others. It will make people want to try to dodge the system and pay less taxes. People don't like paying taxes and hate it even more if they think they have no vote and their money is wasted.I tried to use it as an example for the farmers not paying into the system but the middle class is.. but there are more poor and so they win the vote and decide what happens with the tax from the middle class.

I think you are right there is a witch hunt for people who are / were connected to Taksin. I think it is done to prevent him from coming back. I am not sure if its a good idea or not. If these people do their job good then I see no reason to remove them unless they work to get him back.

As for charging a politician if he is totally stupid.. that is a good one even in the West i see some of them get away with a lot of mistakes and money lost. Though I have also seen them go after them and make them personally responsible (not often).

Sorry Chris, I have to respectfully disagree. "the people", most of them anyway, have been "educated", and I put this in quotes because of the Thai school ranking, in Government run schools where they are not taught to think, In order to make appropriate decisions, a person must possess critical thinking tools and have an understanding of what true democracy consists of. Having a mature population that possess the required skills will take a couple of generations after the education system is fixed. And, I have so far only heard talk, no action, on fixing the education system.
