BANGKOK: -- A shipment of missile components bound for Ukraine and intercepted by Finnish customs originated in Vietnam, reports the daily Helsingin Sanomat. The paper wrote on July 18 that in June Finnish customs officers blocked the large consignment because it lacked the permits required to transit through Finland.

It was still not clear whether the missile parts were linked to the downing of MH17 flight of the Malaysian Airlines plane over pro-Russian rebels’ stronghold in Ukraine.

China and Russia have always been a trifle niggardly with each other over the years, mind you there is the possibility that the funds for said ordinance may well come from Russian or other sources, governmental or private, many a wealthy Russian with both a personal and political axe to grind..

Indeed the web of interbnational deceit in power plays is difficult to unwind.

The legitimate Ukraine authorities have a number of these missile launchers in their military arsenal - it's unlikely these parts were destined for use by the insurgents as they can get their supplies straight from "mother" Russia...................

What incredibly mischievous and irresponsible journalism. How could the parts be "linked" to the destruction of MH17 on Thursday July 17 when the newspaper report of Friday July 18 says the consignment had been blocked?

I know the corporate Western media is doing its best to put the blame for this appalling tragedy on the pro-Russian Ukraine dissidents and Putin, but this is simply shows how far they will go to bend the truth.

Probably legit. The Ukranians bought some refurbished or second-hand stuff from the Vietnamese. The fact that it was routed via Helsinki could be a simple case of logistics. Probably cheaper since Helsinki isn't half a world away from Kiev.

Probably illegal. Some separatist faction trying to get some armaments by subverting an embargo. The fact that it was routed via Helsinki was to avoid more direct routes with heavier scrutiny. The cost is irrelevant when you believe in your cause.

I agree...

I suspect that the Ukraine had many of these missiles to protect Russia, since the events of the last few months the Ukraine would not be able to get technical support or parts which means the ones in the hands of the true Ukrainians would not be serviceable, so I would find it hard to believe the true Ukrainians shoot down MH17.

How the heck you arrived at China when the article states parts originated from Vietnam? Last time I've checked, the relationship b/w Vietnam and China were quite antagonistic. Therefore, no way Vietnam could have gotten the parts from China.
