Vivian Maier

Thought you might like to see these shots by a truly amazing photographer. Seems a film is to be made relating to the discovery of the negatives and a little about her life and work.

I find the whole thing so sad knowing that she shot such amazing images and yet printed so few. She saw so little of her lifetimes work and passion.

Reading that most of the stuff was poorly exposed, negs damaged etc you have to applaud the modern day restoration, development, printing and digitising quality. Quite remarkable clarity, detail and tonal range. And I can't imagine spotting and cleaning up all those negs and prints!

She even managed to grab a pic of Fimgirl . . .

Nobody looks good first thing in the morning.

I scrub up well.

Browsing through the images I see she got over here to Thailand.

I would hate to see the before then.

Been a number of great women photographers ; from Cameron, Arbus, Arnold through to Liebowitz and Cindy Sherman. Like women artists...much neglected!!

Cindy Sherman now there is someone who's made a lot of money photographing herself.

Genius.

Viv Maier got around quite a bit back when traveling the world

seems to have been a real adventure. I always liked her stuff

on "Indochina" and the Middle East...

The documentary "Finding Vivian Maier" arrived on iTunes this morning. I have rented it and it is downloading now.

$3.99 to rent, $12.99 to buy. If you rent, you have thirty days in which to start watching it. Once you start watching it, you can watch it as many times as you wish within 24 hours.

Watched it this morning. The story of how her work came to light is interesting, her photos are sensational, and the story of her life that the researcher uncovers is very sad. She died destitute without having shown her work to anyone. Well worth a watch.

What struck me whilst browsing through her images was how her style seemed to change when she started to shoot in colour. It seems as if she was drawn to the colour as opposed to the content. In my opinion I believe her earlier monotone work was far superior.
