rmicheald Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 I am looking for a newer car. I purchased a NEW car before from a dealer in BKK. Unfortunately the ex <deleted> me out of that when I kicked her out. Anyway, if buying from a private owner, what are some of the things I need to be aware of? Thanks in advance.
Pattaya46 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Do you really need a car if you don't have a wife and family ?? Traffic for cars is already terrible in Pattaya, and it can only become worse with all condos currently in construction...
Kaoboi Bebobp Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 You are living in Pattaya and want to buy a car outside Pattaya? or You live outside Pattaya and want to buy a car (to travel into Pattaya)? Sorry, your headline is confusing and that may change responses. Well, it won't change mine. As Pattaya46 notes, you are at a huge disadvantage driving a car/truck in Pattaya. Couldn't be a worse choice unless you have some commercial/personal need.
ThaiBob Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Once we clarify what the OP is really asking this sounds like a question for the Motoring forum.
rmicheald Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 I have lived AND WORKED (still working) in Pattaya for 8 years. I am WELL AWARE of the traffic in Pattaya. My question is about buying a car somewhere OUTSIDE of Pattaya. Does it have to be registered in the city I buy it or the original owner lives? Can it be registered in Pattaya? Anything I should be aware of since I have only purchased a car from a Bkk Dealer. Thanks...
craigt3365 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Since this doesn't really seem to be Pattaya specific, why don't we try this over in the motoring forum? I'll move it over there and a link will be left in the Pattaya forum. If you don't get the answers you need, we can always move it back. I have heard it's a great time to buy a used car. Oh....another thought....there use to be a used car dealer on Suk (I believe) that was run by a farang. You might pop in there and pose this question to him. Or, try a dealer here and see what they say? Some do have used cars. Topic Moved.

Why does HIS purposes for owning a car have anything to do with you?? He just WANTS one.. 2

There is a transfer procedure, it's been some years now so in order not to give you the wrong direction my suggestion would be to go a local agency that does the reg's and transfers for a fee but should be able to answer your questions, most inspection facilities with the blue and yellow gear sign out front provide those services, they'd be the best option for accurate info IMO. BTW the expat owned dealership that was mentioned is I believe owned by a member here, his nik is Stingray. 1

You go with registration where it was originally purchased and registered as I recall and then upon renewal the following year it gets transferred.. This is why I use the reg service companies as they simplify the process for a minimal fee (a few hundred baht), not worth the hassle and time for you to handle IMO.
