Is Thailand The Best Place To Retire Or Pristine Singapore?

Recommended Posts

Most of England is now foreign, each time I go back for a visit (which presently seems to be every 5 years), the more foreign the place seems to me as well as feeling like a foreigner there also. But that's another story.

I'm a second-generation immigrant who lives in Britain. Problem?

No problem.

England is yours and you are welcome to it.

I left over 20 years ago (and it wasn't because of immigrants).

As it happens, the grass IS greener on the other side.

The Grass is Greener.

You make what you want out of life, for me (a normal Northern British Bloke), life is now remarkably better then what I allowed myself to be dished out with back about 20 years ago.

I bought a one way air ticket to New Dehli via Aeroflot, in 1992, together with 1600 pounds in travellers cheques.

The best move I ever made.

Now I have experienced the greener grass - I am happy!

Even Singaporeans don't like living in Singapore -  astronomical stress levels.

vacation - woohoo, let's go - I love it.

Live there? no thanks.

Agreed its a great place for a 5-7 day vacation. The thing that I've noticed most that has changed in Singapore is that it is so much more crowded than it used to be 25 years ago.even going on the MRT used to be pretty relaxing, now people are crammed in. Not exactly sure how much more population there is now, but it isn't a big place, and it just seems more hemmed in.

Their hoping to fit in 6.9 million and recent talks have come up with a projected 10 million ppl. Since the birth rate of singapore is pretty low the ppl making up the 6-7 million will be totally foreign born. Does this sound like some western countries to you?

That's exactly what Thais are saying about their own country.

Overrun by farangs.

Doesn't stop you living in Thailand, though, does it?

Sorry, my reply was in connection with life inside the UK (only because I was asked if I had a problem with it, .............which I don't...........as it it is now a bag of s&^5t.

Who ever wants to live there is welcome to it, and lets face it....the arms of the UK are wide open.

UK... US... Same Same. I just agree with the naked truth of parallel universes.

I don't get it, why would someone want to retire in Singapore?

1] Way safer than Thailand.

2] Unlike Thailand, has legal casinos.

3] Like a mini USA.

4] Did i already mention Geylang?

5] Shall i continue?

1: Yes and very boring.

2: Who cares.

3: In what regard? USA have some awesome national parks with unspoiled nature and cheap household stuff (cars/bikes/housing and so on). Where in Singapore can you find that? The Zoo?

4: What about it? Have you been to Pattaya?

5: Yes keep trying.

How come more and more Singaporeans moves to Malaysia/Indonesia, I think they want a house with garden and perhaps a car. 2 things many can't afford, especially the house.

As I have said, I have been to Singapore. It is like living in a Disneyland. Why would I try to live in a Disneyland when I'm looking for paradise?

You can live in Disneyland.  Disney designed and built a  community Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow.     It has a population of 8000 people in Florida.  It is called Celebration.

2. Casino lovers obviously

3. Meditate upon it. A light might turn on.

4. I prefer BKK. And GL.

5. SG weather & prostitution laws way better than Canada. Need more?

check property prices and rents in "pristine" Singapore and weep! besides, Singapore does not have a retirement option.

Rents for as little as 40 USD/day in Geylang.

Retire by splitting the year 50-50 between SG & LOS....3 months in & out...repeat...in/out...

geylang is the red light district and the seedy side of the country. Gangsters, foreign workers, many hookers, pimps etc but i am sure they won't beat any western country's seedy side. Sure for most of you farangs that wouldn't daunt you. They don't have drug dealers with guns and open robberies yet. People leave you alone most of the time.

Without Geylang in Singapore i probably wouldn't even bother. The attractions would be far less & the same economic value may be lost.

I've lived in very safe places in the largest cities of Thailand and Canada. The RLD of Geylang in Singapore was easily safer than any of them. It's extremely safe. SG may be the safest country on the planet. They don't have farangs flying out of hirises every day.

It doesn't matter whether I end up in Singapore, Thailand or elsewhere. I didn't come to work, nor supplement my retirement income with a teaching job. Nor did I come to get married. Never have been married and never will. I enjoy single life. I came to fully retire and enjoy life. If you are still putting in Work then you are truly retired.

You would think a member with you seniority would make no assumptions about someone's Bankroll. But to prove my point. Show everyone in Thaivisa how intelligent you are and tell them the names of my banks and corresponding account numbers. Huh? Can you type in a viewable font? Oh! I see...
