Somsrisonphimai
When I was in Pattaya a while back, I saw a lot of couple that the men were between 20-40 years older than the women. I said to myself, is there something wrong with this picture? How could a man, who is in his retirement age, possibly have anything in common with a young girl, who has just turned 21? But then again, people cannot help who they love. Set that aside, it seemed the Thai society has accepted a large age gap in a relationship between younger Thai woman and older foreign man. I was wondered in your country, does the society accept the relationship as it does in Thailand? Do you and your Thai wife/girlfriend feel comfortable with the relationship in your country as you feel in Thailand? Or how comfortable are you with your relationship in Thailand?

Popular Post David48
Somsrisonphimai ... I like the stuff you write, but I always have this nagging doubt. You are Thai correct? Living in Thailand? A Thai Woman? It's just that you always talk about Thailand in the 3rd person. "it seemed the Thai society has accepted" ... wouldn't you naturally write along the lines of the first person in the style of 'our society'. That said ... MissFarmGirl seems to be fine with me. Our age differerence is known to our friends. For those who are curious as to that number ... buy me a beer and heck, I'll throw in the winning Lotto numbers for next week ...

Popular Post pgrahmm
We have a 30 year age difference the Mrs & me....friends in the USA have Thai wives with 20-30 years gap and as far as I know none of us has experienced a problem.......many friends here are at the same age gap.......oddly enough here it's the older Thai women that are put off - they don't like to think that it's possible that they can be upgraded upon and maybe feel threatened - that possibly might/could be different if I'd married an ugly Thai gal I guess..... I have had my fair share of Thai/Fila/Asian GF's (actually more then my fair share) and the one I have chosen as my wife is the best match personality wise. We are literally together 95%+ of the time and never much concern as we are both basically quiet people and enjoy the same things.....spats happen but are never loud and always talked out/about afterward and never last long (worse towards the cycle days). We are both pretty low maintainence that way......she never - if ever asks for anything and is genuinely thrilled when she does get something - large or small.....equally as thrilled when she gets a little something for me out of her budget..... The phrase "up to you" does not get get used in our house - we use "up to us"..... If you want to see real stank eye in the USA be with an Asian gal walking around where there are a lot of people and the US women almost hate you on sight. Number one - they know that you are happy.....Number two - they know that there is no way they can compete.....

Popular Post Costas2008
I have to admit, that I feel very uncomfortable being married to a my wife that she is 26 years younger than me. It is a mistake I did in the past, but I have to live with it. I should have chosen a young girl with a difference of at least 40 years between us. Anyway, I have to live and regret my mistake.

Should I post a video of myself speak Thai, ... I'm not calling you ... It's just that you do have an unusual writing style. The Forum needs a wider demographic. What would be great would be a Thai person who has spent considerable time in the West, and can make observations and comments on both Societies. Even better if that Thai person was a woman. Berkshire
OP, you mention in your opening piece that "Thai society has accepted a large age gap in a relationship between younger Thai woman and older foreign man." What exactly do you mean by "accepted?" Accepted as a normal sort of thing? I don't think that's true. I think Thai society--like pretty much most other societies in the world--may "condone" it, but not necessarily accept it as the norm. I myself prefer to date women typically 20 years younger than myself. But I can sense that this is not the cultural norm.

thailiketoo
Some things are just more advanced here than in the West. Bum guns, nurses learning how to walk in high heels (Health med walk heels 101. Available at most Thai medical schools) and the advantages of marriage to a more seasoned/experienced mate. Pehaps she should have written, certain segments or certain locations accept it as the norm. From where I live in Bkk, I look at the Thais around me, various age groups, but the average is probably less than 5 years difference. All the Thai/Thai weddings I have attended, the bride is usually about 26-28 and the husband about 28-30 years old. When visiting other parts of Thailand almost the same demographics are experienced. Look at your inlaws and their partners. I know of no Thai women living with guys 25+ years older than them. When talking to my Thai nieces and their friends the thought of marrying an older man repulses them. If you speak Thai listen to some of the coments normal Thais make. I was on Suk rd the other week, the comment made was, looking she is taking her father for a walk, or in Thai, pa khun por bai tiaw.
mrtoad
Personally I don't think I would want a massive age gap, Mrs T is 6 years younger than me, which Is fine. However, maybe I should have a 20 year old Mia Noi, to make me fit in
