I don't care how cautious or professional they are, the Americans have made a huge mistake and have given rise the possibility of ebola spreading into their country. Why they would take care of them there is beyond me, there is no cure or special medicine, they could get what they needed where they were. Such a stupid move, but we are talking about the American government here so I am not too surprised.

They showed the plane he travelled on. I don't think he's likely to infect anyone. Completely contained and filtered air.

So, what about the entire time these 2 people are there, handled by all of the specialists, one wrong move or mistake and somebody gets infected. My main point is that there is absolutely no logical reason to do this, it is just playing with fire.

Why they did it who knows. They are in Atlanta near CDC I guess.

It was my understanding that traditionally in Africa, where the virus originated, when ebola broke out in a village, they would cut down trees and create roadblocks between the village and the next villages to prevent "any" travel in or out and possible spread.

They would also put anyone with symptoms in the same room in the same house and leave them in it. To die.

Effective containment.

No matter the precautions, I find it unbelievable that they would remove someone from Africa and "take them" to the U.S. when there is no known

treatment. To me that is just awesome stupidity.

All the articles I've read have blamed the Africans for not understanding the dangers. I cannot agree with that.

Yet more nonsense. Treatment is available and the sooner it starts the better your survival changes. I can only assume that the US authorities think treatment in the US is better and therefore give better survival chances. Nothing at all wrong with bringing them to the US. Just follow the guidelines and everything with be fine. You lot don't even understand the basics. To say that no treatment is available is more than ridiculous.

Most West Africans reside in West Africa, not Bangkok.

Do you know what "up to 90%" means? It seems not.

You seem very confused about simple facts. Maybe English isn't your main language.

Just.... wow.  I'm almost at a loss for words here.

1) Thailand has lots of visitors from West Africa, especially Nigeria. Thailand actually spends a lot of money catering to them to come here. They even have a Thai Embassy in Nigeria due to so many of them coming here!!!!!!

2) Do you have any idea how many workers (oil rigs, private contractors...) work in West Africa and come to Thailand on their off shifts, or keep a place here? Lots.

3) Do you know how many Thais are working in West Africa? Lots.

4) Why do they have to come directly from Africa? We all live in a global world now. Someone from West Africa goes to China, infects people on a plane, who in turn go to Thailand the following week. It could have happened already and no one knows yet.

All it takes is ONE of them returning to Thailand with Ebola and we have a possible nightmare on our hands. Considering the amount of people coming from that area of the world to Thailand, the risk is very high.

There are 7 Filipinos in Manila right now who are under watch as they think they were exposed to the virus. They were all migrant workers in Sierra Leone. Lots of Thais working there too, and they will all be coming home soon as this situation gets worse.

Not to mention, does anyone remember how Thailand dealt with swine flu? The numbers were so high and being reported every day in the papers, that the gov stepped in and told them they had to get the numbers from the government. That was the end of swine flu, and all to save tourism. Do you think for a second that the Thai government, military or otherwise, is going to alert the world that they have Ebola? cheesy.gif  Maybe a case or two at best, but in order to not harm tourism, they will risk every life in this place. THAT you can count on.

Wake up man. You're not living in the 70s anymore. People are traveling more than ever, and moving quickly around the world. WHO has said this outbreak is the worst yet and is moving faster than they can contain it. We are all living in a country that is at risk for various reasons. No one wants to talk about how great the risk really is here, but just ask anyone working there what the score is and they will tell you, or ask any Nigerian on Soi 3 how many are arriving daily.

However, you are correct about one thing. Only 700+ are dead and people are freaking out. More die from drunk driving and lots of other reasons. However, no one wants to die from Ebola. It's a horrifying way to go. The worst way to die. I'd rather be killed in a car accident than bleed out from every orifice in my body as my insides liquify.

Yes, very good, but I was actually replying to the person who said most West Africans live in Bangkok. They don't. They live in West Africa. So not sure what your little rant has to do with this. Very fe people have Ebola, so there is next to no chance of someone bringing it here. You seem to think that living or working in West Africa means you are likely to get it. Even 99.9999%+ people who live in West Africa don't have it and won't get it. Stop making mountains out of molehills.

I doubt very much that the Nigerians arriving in Bangkok have been in contact with anyone who has Ebola. Do you actually know how big West Africa is Just because you come from there doesn't mean you're a risk. I suggest you stay away from Soi 3 if you're so paranoid.

Just like they denied the existence of aids in Thailand until the 1980s?

The Thais STILL blame lice and scabies on dirty farang back packers!

And they are correct. Have you seen the state of some farang packpackers? They're a disgrace.

You could say the same about many farangs and their bar girls. One wrong move or mistake and somebody gets infected. But that doesn't stop them. Why not rant about them instead. You are just showing your lack of knowledge by suggesting that this will spread in US. No-one will get infected in this case. It will be handled properly.

There is definitely no reason to worry in the least, as it won't have a visa it won't be allowed in, end of story, no problem, mai pben rai.

When did I say it was going to spread? I said there was no logic and there is the chance that it could now that 2 infected people are on American soil. They could have received quicker treatment where they were and there was no need to move them around, no need at all. Anyway I kind of hope it does spread, the US needs a good shake up

I'd venture that the biggestbdisgrace is your powes of observation coupled with your lack of medical knowledge

"How to Handle the Ebola Virus When It Reaches Thailand".

Look at the title....that is not an "if" but a "when". The country cannot even handle a dengue outbreak.

You don't handle a been then outbreak...you as low or cause it.....like Dengue, Ebola is a virus and one has to realise that in a modern world a virus has plenty of travel options...air/sea/road there is little Thailand can do to prevent thenodd case arriving.....it's what they do after that that is most important.

The treatment is, keep it isolated, it will die with the last person that is infected, as it relies on spreading to survive.   Aljazeera.

There have been several articles mentioning the spread of the diease if it "has a water droplet as a medium"... Is there fog anywhere?

As far as I know a sneeze will do it.

In a typically rude TV manner Idnguy has criticized my post as "nonsense". The criticism being aimed at my comment that there was 'no known treatment'.

The Africans I read about many years ago already practiced what you are describing as containment which is not treatment and which I alluded to. Treatment is medical or physical intervention in the process of the disease to effect a cure.

As far as I know there is no known medical cure and have asked idnguy, as he strongly suggests that he knows, to divulge what it is and prove what I said is "nonsense".

At best he will be able to show I am ill-informed and set me straight, but far from nonsensical.

I have a Thai friend in Bangkok who no doubt has a possible cure, however he has been arrested and under observation for practicing medicine without a licence and has not treated ebola. He cures a great many things including cancers, with natural products and techniques and for which some jealous Dr has snared him in a legal trap.

I have used his techniques to quickly eradicate other viruses, like the bird et al swine flu and will discuss ebola with him next time I am in town.

It would be ridiculous to claim to cure ebola. I am eager to hear idnjuy back up his claim. For a start the rapidity of the spread of the disease in the body, is a major problem and the medical profession are a long way behind with treatments for viruses in general.

There have been medical doctors who championed cures for all disease, however that was quickly swept under the carpet by the American Medical Association and there is not enough room to go into it here and we're talking over 80 years ago.

And the answer to my sarky question is correct! Hence, the friggin' disease is contagious when airborne.

Oh, no, no,no..... We can't have some nature "freaks" and ol' hippies going around and tell the poor CEO's and COO's of these mega-death drug companies that their products don't work... NO... that won't do!!! Puppets (and/or muppets), as heads of states need these legal death merchants working hand-in-hand with the: arms industry, medical industry, the banking industry, the penal industry, and one of our all-time-favorites, THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY... NO.... YOU CANNOT HAVE NATURAL REMEDIES for: cancer, HIV, ebola (it's coming awright - see US patent), and a host of other man-made diseases designed for the $$$$ masters - where would all these poor darlings get their constant flow of cash.... Feel sorry for the mega-rich, give em' a break!!!! violin.gif.pagespeed.ce.8MK3fN8NTC.gif

I'm just going to leave this here, the US has a patent for this now. Enjoy
http://www.google.com/patents/CA2741523A1?cl=en

If you read that and understand it, could you give us the 'one paragraph' distillation?

I'm far to busy to do that, read it for yourself and you will also see that it is indeed stated as airborne

That was my understanding, which is why traditionally, African natives quarantined people known to be infected by that variety.

Quite disturbing is the description of someone in the latter stages of the disease thrashing around a lot as their body disintegrates and

spatters themselves all over the place. A truly gruesome disease.
