You can request to search the police who will be doing the body search first and you should also ask them to show their hands that they're not hiding anything, also it is best to have a witness with you at all times, witnessing the whole process.

Has anyone tried this; searching a policeman?????? before he searches you????? Let alone let me see your hands???? Wow!

What is technically correct and what happens in reality in Thailand are not always the same.

If you want to challenge and armed man with (possibly) an attitude and wearing a Police uniform that you want to search him, best of luck with that !
If you dont speak good Thai and even attempt that I would have to guess you want trouble and will more than likely find it!

Depends on the trustworthiness of the respective policeforce. In thailand OP's question would not be out of order. In fact, i see it as a good suggestion to protect oneself.
