I own a sony pcm-D50, but have never been able to get into field recording despite being interested in it. I often record environments that I am in, but never know what to do with them afterwards. Who listens to this kind of stuff? I've wanted to start a project of mapping the city, different areas and environments, but I'm new to this and would be interested to hear if there are other folks who do this kind of sound art. Thanks

I occasionally dabble with recording bird calls & songs . . . and for this i use a Rode Videomic Pro & a Zoom H1 recorder. It's a fun challenging thing. But the expert in this field, from Chiang Mai (& my inspiration?) was Tony Ball - a truly great birder & a really nice guy that i met several times over the years at sites around the north. He died last year. This OP made me remember him . . . .

You could interview drugged up, drunk idiotic thais and farangs on the Suk and send the recordings to me to make an album similar to David Holmes - Lets Get Killed, where he walked around NY recording nutcases and included it in his work.
