Most/All doctors also should be able to speak English (As well as Thai of course), as the expectations on them at university in regards to English are fairly high. Although often their vocab will be general speaking + medical terms as opposed to "lay-mans" vocab e.g. I was teaching a group of hospital staff, and one of the doctors came along as well to see how it was going. When I was explaining "dizzy" to the staff, I found that he didn't know dizzy, but knew other more technical/specific words like vertigo and nausea, words which, as a layman, I'd generally not use if I was describing how I felt, even when speaking to a doctor, and especially not to a Thai doctor (e.g. Use the fancy words if you're talking to doctors, as they're more likely to understand those than the usual stuff which spurts forth from our mouths)

Have used the Bangkok Korat Hospital Pediatric Department many times (near to the Mall on Mittrapharp Road), excellent service but comes at a price (not worth a compromise though, if you can afford it go for it - read below).

Your wife would be in good hands there.

Don't go down the road I did about 13 years ago with the birth of our eldest, visiting Soongnerng Hospital for the birth as it was closest (what a mistake to make, whether it was a mistake of the hospital or not I'll never know but my girls birth was complicated taking most of the day resulting in a cesarian that the hospital wasn't prepared for, this leaving her mentally disabled).

Not used St Mary's yet but have heard its also quite good.

Thank's for the help ,i called St Mary's in the morning and had an appointment in the afternoon > same day<, the help and advise was excellent i had X-rays clean and polish antibiotics supplied for the cost of 1500 THB , very cheap ,the staff were great and all spoke english, i have an appointment in November to have wisdom toot out if no better by then ,i am surprised the dentist > a female? is going to do it in the chair with a local, not a general with a stay over night which i was told at home i would have to do,, that worries me a little.

Sorry to hear about your GF. For any surgical procedure you should get at least 2 opinions as to treatment. My wife had cervical cancer and she was operated on in Por Pat Hospital (43 - 53 ChaiNaRong Road, Amphur Muang, Korat. Phone: 044-242 742, 044-251 070, 044-242 742, 044-252 837). She was treated well and follow up has been excellent. They just completed an 18 floor extension to the original hospital.

Thank you for that i will get her to call right now, as you can except she is very upset and i speak little Thai and her English is also poor, we were not impressed with the explanation given at St Mary's the Quote there was 200,000, THB, i am not sure if that is cheap or expensive, we also went to the military hospital and we turned away at the desk with out any explanation, told to go to public hospital.

Thanks for your best wishes, she insisted she wanted to go to the public hospital as they have a specialist surgeon who only does breast surgery ,she had a friend who has a friend who works there, i was horrified when we arrived, i wanted to leave, but she found the lady and we were taken direct to the surgeon who was great explained all options to her and to me in english, so were are seeing him tonight at his private practise ,but will do the operation in public hospital but place her in a private room, and it will be monday. He is also going to rebuild her breast to look normal, they are only going to remove the tumour not the hole breast.

I will let you know how it goes , many thanks again.

Neil.
