Thai border to be strictly monitored to prevent petroleum trafficking

TAK, 27 August 2014 (NNT) -The Assistant Commission-General has ordered the Thai border to be strictly monitored in order to prevent petroleum trafficking.

Pol.Lt.Gen. Ruengsak Jarit-ek, Assistant Commission-General said he has reported liquefied petroleum gas trafficking from Thailand to neighboring countries, especially around the Thailand-Myanmar border at Mae Sod in Tak and Mae Sai, Wiangkaeng and Chiang Khong in Chiangrai. The provinces', army and related organizations were asked for cooperation in order to prevent the trafficking. The trafficking is due to fluctuations in the market mechanism and a price of petroleum gas that is not aligned with demand and supply.

As for the penalty for gas trafficking, offenders can be jailed for 10 years and fined four times the value of the gas. However, if the trafficking is intended for trading, the offender will be jailed for 20 years and fined 20 times the value of the trafficked product. Police are now investigating the case.

Clampdown on illegal beach vendors and strict law enforcement should have been done under democratic governments

Relentless raining triggers flooding in Suratthani, Buriram

BURIRAM, 27 August 2014 (NNT) – Several provinces are once again facing the problems of inundation after relentless raining over the past few days.

In Satuk District in Buriram, floodwater rose to a height of 40 centimeters. At least one rice mill there has suffered damage; about 10 tons of rice has turned bad. Many roads in the district were also flooded. Much of the flooding has lifted by the end of Tuesday.

In Suratthani, some homes in Wiengsa District became inundated by forest runoff. A number of road segments were damaged. Soldiers from Wiphawadi Rangsit Camp had to help evacuate people from homes that were heavily damaged.

The Meteorological Department has forecast an increase in the amount of rain in the lower Northern Region, the Central Region and the Northeastern Region, due to influence from a high intensity monsoon trough.
