Cruel Teacher Canes 9 Year Old At Pattaya School

PATTAYA – August 25, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 7.00 p.m., Miss Pornsuang Watthanasoonthornsil, aged 35, brought Master Sirirot Thong-ngiw or Taiping, aged 9, a student of Pattaya Arunothai school, Prathomsuksa 4, who had bruised buttocks from being hit by a hard object until got injured, to notify Pol.Lt. Yom Phromsart (Inquiry official of Pattaya city police station) after he was had been hit by a teacher.

Miss Pornsuang told the police that when she picked her son up from school in the afternoon and then they went to Central Festival to watch a film where her son told her that the Art teacher a Mr. Wutthikorn Soonthornwiphart had hit him across the buttocks for forgetting his homework.

She then checked and found that he had severe wounds across his buttocks and was shocked so she went back to his son’s school in order to see the teacher but the teacher just said he wanted her son to submit his homework so he had to punish him. Therefore, Miss Pornsuang took her son to the police so they can take action against the teacher.

I would imagine that many of us in "our age group".......(wait for it)....... had "six of the best" in our time at school......

and it didn't do us much harm (especially on the hands)

but that looks like a "beating".......and a teacher taking out his/her frustration......I don't especially agree with "meditation" for the teacher.....just a good "old fashioned rollicking".....and a reminder that these are somebodies kids......that they are in charge of

So I feel sorry for this little chap

But it is the parents job to make sure that homework is attended to......it is for the childs' own good long-term......maybe the Police should give them a gentle reminder of that fact.........and sort the teacher out

The kid is only 9 years old for Christ's sake. He didn't misbehave in class, he just missed a homework assignment. This would clearly be assault and battery if it occurred outside the school's premises. Why should the offense be lessened just because a person entrusted with the children's physical and mental well-being extracted the punishment?

The teacher should be fired and charged with the appropriate criminal offense.

We do not know the full circumstances maybe the child has tested the teachers patience on other occasions....................two sides to every story-p.s. when I received the cane or other disciplinary actions at school I dare not tell my parents for fear of more punishment

There was a similar thread on the main Pattaya site only two or three months ago.

As I understand it, it is illegal for teachers to do this, I hope the teacher is charged and gets proper justice, to me that is punishment from the courts and barred from working with young children for life.

Well with photos like this in the public media the police can not ignore it and lets hope tomorrows photos are of the kid pointing at his teacher in the cop shop.

Do you think it right to cane a boy for forgetting his homework? Hardly a tearaway from the report and a little on the young side.

Birching thugs and wanton criminals is one thing. Allowing head teachers the right to administer corporal punishment for serious offences is debatable. Allowing an Art teacher to do something like this to a child of that age is reprehensible and hopefully, with their new found vigor the RTP will actually enforce the law that prohibits this in Thai schools.

Most of the few real yobs and louts I knew in my youth were caned at some point. Never made the slightest difference to them. The real problem with these was the parents, who were either louts themselves or simply didn't care.

Can you see the differences or simply don;t care as well.

My god that is a ridiculous level of the punishment based on what the poor little guy did and his age.

That was a very severe beating. I'm not saying the teacher shouldn't have made the point physically but even when I was at school (which was a long time ago) the standards were strict but we never suffered that kind of physical abuse just for forgetting home work.

And it would have been the headmaster that administered the punishment.

For this kind of “ misbehaviour “ we would have had no more than a single rap across the knuckles with a ruler which the teacher humorously referred to as “ the Board of Education “

Yeah right, cause there was no bad behaviour back then I suppose. There have always been and will always be "tearaways".

It is also quite well documented now that violence does not improve behaviour as you can see from the link below. Hitting kids doesn't work, we know better then that now, it's only dinosaurs that hold onto this belief.

The child in this Post looks to have been abused and assaulted. The teacher should be fired (particularly as he showed no remorse) and criminal charges should be bought against him. In short he should never be able to work with children again if this is how he behaves..

Well I don't want to see it revert to the way it was when I was at school, I would like to think there is a happy median somewhere.
