Does anyone know how to establish that foods labelled as organic are in fact as described? I am very wary of such labels particularly in respect of food items produced in Thailand. Also does anyone know where to obtain grass fed beef and free range chicken and eggs in Thailand?

If you can find any organic beef, pork, chicken...please let me know.

Eggs are available in some supermarkets.

There was a news report recently indicating that a lot of stuff sold as being organic in fact contained more than slight traces of pesticides.

Most small farmers have grass fed beef (I can't eat it, too tough), and free range eggs and chickens.

Only a laboratory can do the analysis necessary to determine pesticide content. Maybe your nose will help.

I think there are 2 different things:

a) organic that is fake and in fact not organic

b ) organic but the wind blows the pesticides from the neighbor over it.

at b ) it is still less than the "normal" one.

My wife only trusts the royal projects.....

For trust I would say:

1) royal projects and imported food

2) large companies

3) Market

Here's an unpleasant link about food in markets, unless you mean small village markets. The remark above about insects is of course a good one.

yes that makes it pointless....organic vegetables are available in better supermarkets. Eggs are more difficult but still possible to get. Chicken and pork (or any other meat) and milk products are a problem.

I thought you said you cant trust them to be really organic

To most,Thais everything is Organic ??

This is changing fast.

We have a number of customers for vegetables we produce who go well out of their way to buy directly from us and while these people were initially educated middle class, increasingly ordinary Thai people are coming along to buy organic vegetables and expressing concerns they have about chemicals in food.

Moreover, most of the Thai market gardeners I know grow two crops - The crop for market, which they spay with chemicals and the crop for their own family which they do not spray.

Awareness is growing.

These friends of us who have pigs in the south, let them outside (actually they have no place for them anywhere inside). But they have black hair. So they are black not pink. Some with white spots (They can speak for hours that their pigs look like Panda bears....easy to entertain these folks laugh.png )

They partially give them food, shredded bananas, left overs from their food and sometimes commercial food. Else what they can find.....which often cause some problems with the neighbors.

They don't have males. Some pigs disappears for a week or so and where ever they go they get pregnant.

I see that as perfect life for the pigs....just these guys are so unprofessional that they can't send over meat...and if they could it would be rotten before....

You absolute must increase that licklips.gif.pagespeed.ce.v-hsVd-Wpu.gif

There is an increasing amount of people who are willing to pay more for organic. Specially wealthy Chinese-Thais get sensitive on that + Bangkok is big...many potential customer.

Might be possible to make good money with it, specially if you can take the food for the animals from your farm as well.

Just a lot work...

ive never been scared of hard work, im working class, lol

these are things ill look into in the next few years,

our pork is beautifull, makes brillient sausage,

and our chickens just taist, well different,

i understand what your saying, but you will allways have to give some comersial feed to pigs, i give our pigs a lot of corn too, i soak it in water with a little malasis on it for 24hours just to soften it a little and they love it,

the chickens have the same,

i know in the uk come christmas time corn fed chickens are a good price my mum still does a few, along with turkeys, and a few gease,

i can buy corn at a good price strait from the mills, same as the molasis,

any bananas, fruit and veg we dont eat goes to the animals,

Great.....The supermarket chicken just don't taste. I can't tell what is wrong but they don't taste as good as the real thing.

The supermarket pork doesn't taste like pork. It doesn't taste bad but the pork taste is complete missing.

We had dishes, I couldn't tell if my wife used pork or beef. Complete tasteless
