When re-entering Thailand with a new passport from home country. At Suvarnabhumi, they will stamp you in based on the re-entry permit and extension of stay in old cancelled passport. The question is, does the extension of stay and multi-re-entry permit need to be transferred to the new passport, or is it required to carry 2 old/new passports each time until the next extension of stay. Is there a time limit for the transfer of the stamps to new passport after entering Thailand? Cost?

You can get your stamps transferred at immigration. They prefer you do it as soon as possible after arrival.

At most immigration offices you need a letter from the embassy confirming you got a new passport to do the transfer.

Thank you. The passport was issued overseas, so isn't the new passport itself evidence that a new passport was issued. It seems odd that an embassy would have to issue a letter confirming that the passport is a new passport?

Many have asked the same question. But you would have ask immigration that question.

All I can say is that they do want the letter at most immigration offices because that requirement that has been part of their procedures for many years.

They want a letter if issued in Thailand but if issued in home country normal receipts may be accepted - suspect what they are interested in is that passport is a replacement rather than additional (you or government has canceled old one). You do not have a choice of immigration offices - transfers are made at the office the extension was issued.
